Amsterdam Court Hotel
For a low price the hotel was just what I needed. Not to big & comfy but who cares. It was right around the corner from Times Square & down the street from Central Park.

OK for 8 hours
We only slept there for eight hours and it was a cheap room but I won't be back. The room was very dark, the television was from 1982, the air conditioning only ran cold air occasionally, the toilet ran off and on all night, the sink, shower and tub all were leaking. The bathroom window did not lock and we were on an alley on the first floor.

Great mid week getaway!
The room was very small, but more than adequate for sleeping. Other than sleeping, we weren't in the room at all. A few problems that we experienced were: 1) the closer on our door didn't work properly, and so we came back one evening and found our room door ajar. Luckily nothing was disturbed. 2) the phone in the room didn't work, so if we needed to communicate with the front desk, we had to go downstairs. 3) the room was either too hot or too cold - no thermostat or way to control temps. We found the location ideal for theatre (all the theatres we visited were within easy walking distance) and there were plenty of options for dining very close by. Overall, this hotel is good if you're looking for a bargain place to sleep.

Short walk from hotel
Food Emporium is right around the corner on 8th Avenue, and had a fabulous array of foods for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Soups, pastas, fresh baked breads, sushi, etc. - all amazing and very reasonably priced! We ate several breakfasts there, and also one evening light dinner.

perfect location for our night in nyc....very clean and friendly staff......only complaint is that I requested a king bed at booking and at check in they didn't have king beds available....and honestly....the room was so small that i don't think it would have fit anyway. We were in a "renovated" room that was very nice....beautiful bathroom and comfortable bed. Would recommend if seeing a show or dong the times square thing....but be prepared for small rooms.

Great Location, Clean, Small Rooms, Good for $, No Frills
Everything in Manhattan is expensive. This hotel is relatively inexpensive compared to the others. It has a wonderful location...just a few blocks walk to Times Square. It's withing a 30 second walk of the 1 train and the C, E trains. Rooms are small (picture a cruise ship cabin), but relatively clean. Bathrooms are surprisingly sizable, considering the room size. There really is no staff other than a person or two working the front desk. There are coke machines on each floor and an ice machine on the 6th. There are two drugstores each within a minute's walking distance for drinks and munchies. Location is on 50th St between 8th Ave and Broadway. WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN FOR RIGHT PRICE!

Not Applicable
Don't eat or shop anywhere near Times Square and you will save yourself a lot of money. The Times Square/Midtown area is the biggest tourist trap on earth. Instead, try Greenwich Village off the A,C,E at 4th St or Little Italy or Chinatown off Canal St on the A,C,E,N,Q,R,W trains.
