Great Value

Overall we had a great experience at the hotel. We only had a couple issues with internet and our room cards sometimes, but they were very minor and were quickly fixed. Great location 4 blocks away from the subway. Staff is very helpful and polite. Everything was very clean. Free breakfast in the mornings is very convenient. Overall very good trip.

First time to NYC

We stayed Oct. 24-29th and I don't know if I've ever met more pleasant staff! Maria, Micky, Louis and another guy (who's name I didn't catch but I believe is the asst. mngr) were all more than willing to help with anything we needed. Both my travel companion & I have health limitations but the 15 min. walk to the subway (to Manhattan) wasn't bad. We also used the car service a couple times on our way to Manhattan & took cabs back at night. While the cabbies knew the places we wanted to go in Manhattan, they always asked us how to get back to our hotel & we had no clue. If you are going to take a cab back from Time Square or Central Park or Ground Zero or wherever, ask the front desk before you leave for the best way back. The only downside was a lingering smell in the hotel (lobby, halls & room). But we grew accustom to it & only noticed it for a short time when we arrived back at night. The asst. mngr said the new owner only purchased the hotel 2 wks ago & they were going to be remodeling from top to bottom & even adding an additional floor. So hopefully the smell will be gone after the remodel. Unless I win the lotto and can afford to stay in downtown Manhattan next time, I’ll most likely be staying at the Queensboro Hotel again.

great price, awesome customer service

the room was nice and clean, the hotel workers were very friendly, they allowed us to check in four hours before our check in time and kept our luggage before our flight out.

Satisfactory

The 6 block walk to the subway takes a good 20 minutes (speed walking). The hotel was satisfactory - it was clean, the staff was friendly, the breakfast was hot. That said, it is an older hotel - the fan on my heating/cooling unit was LOUD, the shower curtain rod was crooked which made the shower curtain slide. I would stay again, only if I can not find something closer to the subway. I don't like paying the prices that Manhattan dictates, so for the money and location it was good.

OK, good if you have a car

The Hotel is inbetween queens and manhantan. It is about 10-15mins walk to the subway and along with the ride to manhanttan it could take you around 30-45mins to get to times square from the hotel. The hotel is easy to find and is quiet considering it is located just off the the road. I would suggest this hotel to people who has a car as they have parking and is convient but walking around manhantan all day and having to walk that extra 15 mins to get to the hotel is just really too much. The staff are helpful depending who it is. There was a woman who has terrible customer service who checked us in who didn't provide any useful information and the person who cleans after breakfast just won't stop moaning and giving really unfriendly looks. Felt a bit intimidated at times. Breakfast was fairly poor with eggs and bacon and some bread and yoghurt. First hotel that i've been to that uses plastic cutlery and paper plates. But at least the drinks machine is always available to use even after breakfast hours. The rooms are decent but our toilet flooded twice and this was extremely unpleasant, especially once at 5am in the morning. However, the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful at the time and got a plunger and sorted the problem almost straight away. Rooms were cleaned daily and we all had a good night sleep. The hotel is extrememly basic and doesn't have a computer with internet, but claims they have wifi. If you do stay in this hotel make sure the airport in la gueria or JFK as we went from newark and the cab ride cost $100 including the toll charge.

Ok but very inaccessible for Manhattan

We didn't want to spend almost double the price to stay in Manhattan so we choose this location instead. However, we should've stayed in Manhattan as we spent more money in cab fares driving from this hotel to Manhattan back & forth. It's not easily accessible to a train or subway station (you have to walk many blocks & it's not the best area to do so at night time). The hotel will call a private cab for you (you can't hail your own cab as they are hardly seen at all near this location). THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE TO HAVE THE HOTEL CALL A PRIVATE CAB FOR YOU! We believe the cab drivers & hotel have a scam going. The cab took 45 mins to drive a 4 mile direct route & charged us $35 one way! We didn't know any better as it was our first time. Come to find out it's a 10 min drive that should cost about $12-$15 to go to Times Square. We were forced to take the private cab for a second time, this time a different driver but he too tried to pull the same thing on us. Luckily we had our iphones with a gps so we called him out on it. An honest cab driver (yellow cab) told us it's a common scam that the hotels pull with private cabs & advised to never take them. So unless you have a car & want to drive in Manhattan I would suggest finding another hotel closer to the subway or in Manhattan itself. The hotel room however was clean & adequate. The exterior of the hotel is nothing to look at & there are only 25 parking spaces but the hotel has 72 rooms so parking is very limited. I would definitely not go to this hotel again.
