Oh, What once was...

Despite its reputation, Harrah's Reno is an aging run-down hotel that needs an update. The hotel consists of two buildings -- the "East" and "West" towers. The "East Tower" is mostly hotel rooms with a very modest gambling lobby (mostly slot machines). To get to the elevators to reach your room you have to walk through what feels like a service area. With the exception of a snack shop, and a bar there are no real amenities in the East Tower. So, if your room is in that building get ready to walk a lot. The West Tower is where the main casino and restaurants are. But that's not saying very much because again the gaming is sparse (a few expensive tables, and a lot of slots). And the restaurants are disappointing. The buffet doesn't even start serving until 10am, and the menus for the other restaurants are not satisfying. At least there's a Starbucks in the West Tower. Again, if you're in the East Tower you're going to either have to locate the hard-to-find Skywalk or actually go outside and cross the street to get to the West Tower. Insane. Rooms are okay, but noisy. My room had a door with a large gap under it that allowed noise (and smoke) from my rude neighbors to flow in easily. I had to wear earplugs and put a towel under my door just to get sleep at night. The A/C was pretty poor until I removed the absolutely clogged air filter from the unit and then it was strong. Really, for good food or good gaming you're going to go for a walk. I found myself going over to the Silver Legacy three times during my stay (all three times for food, and twice for gaming), and I'll be looking to stay there next time I visit Reno. Walking around Harrah's you can see how they once were a jewel of Reno. But now that jewel is clearly faded and it'll take some effort on their part to match the competition....

If you want the good food (buffets or better) then just walk a block up the street to Silver Legacy. And they actually are open when you're hungry!

Paying for wifi - rip off

We got a very good rate on the room, but everything else you pay for. Wifi is $10.95 for 24 hrs. Can you believe they charge for wifi, and that much? We stayed in some not so fine motels and it was free. Its hard to believe this rip off from a casino.

Room

The motel was good how ever the air conditioner did not work very well and the TV made a lot of load buzzing and the picture was not clear. Also my wife cut her foot on a sharp edge on one of the poker machines. Appearently security was notified and the machine was identified. I was not happy that the gym wanted five dollars for me to use the tread mill. Having said all this I will stay there again the people were nice food was good and over all the experence was good. Thanks for asking. Roy Andone

Harrah's Reno -- Good Deal

Good value. Room was very comfortable and the location was close to many other things to do in Reno. For example, you can walk to several other casinos, go to many restaurants nearby (very upscale ones by the Truckee River), take a tour at a great automobile museum, rent tubes to go down the Truckee River, walk to free concerts in the nearby river walk area, attend a Reno Aces ball game, and find adult entertainment venues nearby. Biggest downers were the casino areas are old, small and permeated with smoke odor, and the pool area is very plain -- more like a motel than casino/resort.

4 day stay

Plus- Great weekly rate value. Good service to and from the airport. Excellent personnel services. Good restaurant choices. Clean room with great views. Good location to catch Amtrak. Minus- Aged hotel casino. Lost its luster from years ago but adequate. Food quality was average and pricey. Coffee in the room pricey. Internet wi fi pricey. Room TV content limited. Would return again for the great room rate.

Good and Bad

The hotel was conveniently located to everything. It was close enough to the other hotels there and the famous sign is just right outside it's doors. The restaurants in the hotel are great. The bad thing was that our room's a/c wasn't working correctly and our room was uncomfortably warm during our stay. I would say that the good outweighs the bad though.
