Vegas trip

I booked a king bed room, and they have a double bed. I called them to ask what had happened. And the say that would charge me $20 more to upgrade when my reservation said that was the king bed room. Other then that everything was ok. The price is ok.

Very average

This hotel is off the strip, but easily accessible due the the monorail that connects it to the strip. It was a very average hotel but undergoing renovation , it should be much improved after the renovation.

pool tournament stay

Chose this hotel for proximity to APA pool tournament held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. The rooms are large and nicly furnished. Received good value on the air/hotel package. The swimming pool is very spacious and always had several loungers available. The Westgate is a stop on the monorail which we used several times a day. We have stayed here several times and have always been glad we did.

All depends on how you play the game...

Before you stay here, watch, "The Queen of Versailles" to understand the mentality of the person who runs this hotel. Everything else will become clear. When you're paying motel-level rates for a hotel in Vegas, your expectations should be set low and remain low. If you know the game, it can turn into a truly positive experience. From the moment that you check in to every single time you approach the elevators, their staff will jump on you offering you a free dinner or show tickets if you give them 90 minutes of your time. The reason for this 90 minutes will be one of two lies, "The hotel is in bad shape and we want to remodel and we want your opinions." or "We just need you to complete a survey about our hotel." The truth that you discover later? Timeshares. We agreed and paid a $40 cash deposit "so that we are guaranteed to show." This is actually the sales commission that goes to the guy who talked you into it. Just like a magic trick, lots of sleights of hand. I was told that they every single person they convince to go in there costs them $400 between the commissions to the free food. They are extremely aggressive once you get in there (typical timeshare SIGN NOW OR THIS OFFER GOES AWAY presentation) so if you're timid or an easy sale, STAY AWAY. If you're aggressive and like to play mind games, this is your playground. In the end, I got $50 in hotel credit with some c-list show tickets which made my hotel stay virtually free! Can't beat that! Regarding the hotel, the view was great but the room was pretty run down. It's about 20 years too late for a remodel. Also it appears close to the strip, but the "real" strip starts at the Wynn which is about 1.4 miles walking. This hotel is like RyanAir -- An aging infrastructure with prices that make you wonder how they keep it running and EVERYTHING is an upgrade from $4 waters to $15 a night wifi. I would stay here again just because it's so cheap, but nothing else.

Tips on getting the best deals out of the timeshare salespeople: 1) When they ask you what gift you want out of their book, ask for hotel credit. I got $50, but overheard another couple who got $75. You can use this in any of their restaurants or stores. 2) Be aggressive and cold. If they make you wait, be angry that they wasted your time. Insist that you have to leave at a certain time (2 hours from that point) to meet your friends. 3) Know how the timeshare racket works. It is one of the worst financial mistakes you can ever make, so understand the sales pitch, the deal and why it would never work for you. 4) When they start the hard close insisting that you must decide now, repeat after me. "If I must decide today, the answer is no."
