Good Time
This experience was off to a bad start when our reservation was not confirmed with the hotel. The staff made sure to figure out why this did not occur. They told us not to worry and they would work to correct the issue. Otherwise, overall great experience. I would go back again.

Grand Indeed!
The US' largest hotel has something for all -- the sprawling casino, sports book, world-class entertainment, food with entrees listed from $4 to $450, shopping, the largest pool complex in the city, and more. Not all was perfect: we got in late in the evening and the room class we paid for was not available. The good news -- we got a free upgrade; the bad news -- after a long day we dragged our bags to the 22nd floor room only to find a party going on it -- it was already occupied. They then put us on the 28th floor (of 29) and gave us a $65 food credit for the mix-up. The tower was newly renovated and the room reflected the very up-to-date atmosphere. Annoyingly, they have just 1 ice machine per floor of about 160 rooms, and ours was broken for a day, I booked when MGM offered a pair of tickets with the stay, apparently a recurring promotion. So we saw Cirque du Soleil's Beatles' LOVE at the Mirage for free -- a $200 value. They also sold hotel guests tickets to KA, another Cirque show, at MGM for more than 40% off. So we saw 2 Cirque shows for very little. We booked Sunday thru Thursday nights, when rooms are much cheaper. The same rooms were about 150% more on the weekends. Like most Strip resort/hotels, they charge a daily resort fee, which adds almost nothing more than would be expected. With tax, MGM gets $28 per day. This is just a price gimmick to make the base rate look more attractive.

CBS TV has a large presence at MGM. They run regular focus groups to evaluate future programming. While we were there, volunteers were given $20 to $70 for an hour or two of viewing and evaluating. It's a fun diversion to participate in even if there were no payments.

MGM getaway
Great location, although large property so even going to the spa or pool is a hike. Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We asked the concierge about reservations at a restaurant, she called immediately and found it was closed for a private parts and saved us the trip all the way to the Wynn. She even reccommended some restaurants in the area we might like. The room was dirty when we arrived. The bed was made and everything, but there was trash on the floor (tags from clothing and such) underneath the TV stand that was not picked up for our entire 5 day stay. It just shows they probably missed some other aspects of cleaning if they missed something I saw within the first 5 minutes I was in the room. Other than that, great stay, but will probably pick one of the other great hotels on the strip.

WOW!!! First time in Las Vegas, what a hotel to pick. Perfect location on the strip, short 12 dollar taxi ride from airport. Great entrance, amazing bars, restaurants, shops and VAST casino but the real treat was the stunning pool complex. Great relaxation in the sun. Everything to hand outside the hotel, Dueuce bus stop and booking desks for shows and trips at west wing exit. Could not have asked for more.

View from the top?
We paid for the Exec. King Suite. It was a large room and the bathroom was nice. The ad says we get "comfy robes." No robes in our room. We did not ask for them, but felt we shouldn't have to. The plumbing needed fixing and their staff was in our room in about 2 mins - nice guy who fixed the issue. The view from our upgraded Exec King Suite was a rooftop (i.e. = no view at all) The MGM is at the beginning of The Strip. You can't walk to other hotels....in fact you can't walk to everything inside the MGM. It's just too big, too expensive and too full of itself. There is ALWAYS a huge line to check in and ALWAYS a huge line to see a Concierge. We waited more than 10 minutes in line when the Concierge desk first opened at 8 am. At the end of our stay, a convention arrived of more than 14,000 people. You couldn't get an elevator, you couldn't walk down the hallway, get a seat for dinner....horrible. Had I gotten a "regular" room I might have felt the MGM was okay, but I paid for an upgrade and feel I got ripped off. If you intend to stay at MGM, get the least expensive room. You'll be treated no better or worse and get no better or worse room than we did. Oh, and the sheets don't fit the beds. Great bed - but the bottom sheet is just laying over the mattress. You'd think if the MGM can afford a plush bed, they could afford to get sheets that stay on overnight.

Short walk from hotel
We ate at Nathan's Hot Dog stand inside the MGM. We got 3 hot dogs, two beers and two orders of fries. Our bill was $48. Go across the street from the MGM and get food and drinks outside of major hotels. Miller Lite in hotel is $7.50. Across the street $1.95.

Love the River
I go to MGM to enjoy the river pool... other things are good too. I'm a senior citizen and did not find unruly behavior / excessive drinking at the pool as others have reported. As a resort fee is now charged, MGM should stop charging for the inner tubes and instead have them freely available for guests. The maid for my room was a delight. She did much to ensure I enjoyed my stay. I thought the bed too soft, but found my sleep to be refreshing. I believe the pillows and quilt to be well filled down. It was all white and felt very European. Ka is playing there. I see a Cirque du Soleil on every trip to Las Vegas. "O" is my favorite, but the staging, talent and visual art of KA is phenomenal. It was Grand to have KA presented where I was staying. I was in Las Vegas with others who stayed at Paris, so I can compare a bit. I thought the Paris buffet to be much better, only Paris had a much higher noise level in the public areas and few concierge (resulting in long waits to get a quick answers). MGM had 3 - 4 times more concierge, and having questions to ask several times, never had to wait. Paris has many more stores presenting items not available in the MGM stores.

Long walk from hotel
The strip is long and MGM is a distance from the outside shows provided by Treasure Island, Bellagio and Mirage. Many street crossings require going up a level to use a bridge. A 24 hour bus pass is available for $8 to ride from MGM/NY/Excalibur to Paris and onto downtown. I believe a 72 hour pass is $20. Passes can be purchased from machines outside the MGM, Excalibur, Paris and Bellagio. The bus is more convenient and less expensive than the tram. I got this tip from a concierge at Paris.

Horrible RUDE STAFF
I asked for directions to the west side of the hotel and the guy at concierge told me "its on the west." he refused to give me locational directions and acted like I was stupid. He caused me to miss our helicopter tour while we wandered around the hotel looking for the right exit. Then I called to see how much the club was...They said 75 bucks a person, no discount for hotel guests and then the person said IF YOU CAN GET IN. THE WORST PART WAS MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ASSAULTED AND ARE PRESSING CHARGES AGAINST FIVE PEOPLE WHO ASSAULTED US OUTSIDE THE HOTEL IN BROAD DAYLIGHT WHILE WAITING FOR THE SHUTTLE BACK TO THE HOTEL> SECURITY WAS NOWHERE IN SIGHT> GOOD LUCK STAYING HERE> FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE>
