horrible experience
the room was not properly cleaned, the room smelled of cat urine, there where glitter all over the bed, my children and i woke up with swoolen eyes and it seemed like the staff did not care , they did switch ups to another room the following day but i never expected that from a howard johnson that name has no more weight with me overall very dissatisfied with this hotel

Felt unsafe before checking in!
I made a trip to NYC, alone with my two young kids. Everything about it was just a bad vibe. I had trouble sleeping because I felt unsafe. I hated it.

Decent place to stay for sight-seeing.
The room was BIG. We had 2 double beds and a pull out couch. The beds were comfortable. Big screen tv in the room with basic cable channels. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included (nothing fancy, toast, bagels, muffins and a variety of cereals. Coffee, tea, apple & orange juice and milk.) The bathroom was a little cramped and the hair dryer didn't work, also the grout was stained something awful and there was little to no air circulation in the bathroom (the fan comes on automatically with the light, but it doesn't seem to do anything). The carpets could stand to be cleaned as well. However, the price was right and it was a comfortable place to sleep since we were spending a majority of our time visiting NYC. It's a super close drive, gas in NJ was 45 cents cheaper than in NY. We had our 3 kids with us and they didn't complain about the room (only the fact that they didn't have a pool - ha). The linens were sparkling clean and when we asked for extra towels they brought them right to our door. The only issue that might arise for people is that it's located on the side of a very steep hill. Our GPS took us down that hill and the hotel was built into that...so the driveway up to the rooms is very steep and could be problematic in colder weather when it gets icy.

Not a pleasant experience.
Room was not set up - beds not made, table chairs were dirty, I personally would not set in them they were disgusting. Bathroom was filthy and stunk. We did complain and was given a different room, it was a little better, but had to have them vacuum the room. Would never ever stay at this hotel again!!! The next night we stayed at a different hotel and it by far exceeded Howard Johnsons in NJ and was half the price.
