Howard Johnson Hotel - Newark Arpt

Although the NJ turnpike is not my ideal vacation spot, being very close to the airport with a free shuttle to and from the airport and the easy train into New York from there made it very convenient.

Towels were like sand paper, not to mention, I got a towel that had a long blond hair in it two days in a row. Gross! and the carpet in the room was kind of oily. It's hard to explain but it had a weird filmy feeling to it when walking barefooted. Gross!  We left tips for a housekeeper on a side table every day, but the first day, we forgot to write a note indicating that it was for a housekeeper. When we came back, the money was gone. Yes, we left the money as tips, but from my experiences, housekeepers at other hotels and motels where I previously stayed had NEVER touched money that I left in a room unless I specifically indicated on a note that it was for them, so I was kind of surprised by this. After the first day, we didn't even bother to leave a note and the tips we left were gone every day. We just made sure that we didn't leave any money in the room that wasn't tips.One night I called the front desk and asked if they had plastic forks, and the lady said "No, no forks!" and hung up on me... I understand that some hotels don't provide stuff like this, so I am not even mad about that part, but good grief, she needs customer service training...like yesterday. She had no people skills. They taking my money and your customers for granted. This is the kind of hotels that gives you a bad reputation and I really like cheap tickets but I can't do nothing about it if you guys don't do something about it

Hotel was good for stay..only thing i dont like, they charge $15 for parking.

I hotel was enough for me. I needed a place to stay a few nights that was close to the airport. I had no problems checking in. The room was clean and basic. I just needed a bed and hot shower.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant and it was satisfying and filling. The driver for the shuttle was excellent and very friendly, even at 4 a.m.

Hotel was in good shape for the price and just a nights sleep and early morning flight. Only stay if you are catching an early morning flight because the planes will wake you as they come in or take off. Not a good place to sleep before 11 pm at night or sleeping in past 6-7 am if you are a light sleeper. Shuttle was convenient and everyone there was nice.

It was very nice and clean. The staff were very nice.

Very Near to NY city (Max 15 min); But they took $15 every night for their own roof-less Parking - Hidden Cost. If i add this cost the total will be around $125; i can get better 3 star Hotel. Again the Queen beds are little small.

Staff was awesome and the hotel was really comfortable. I would definitely go back

Nice large rooms that are very clean. Microwave and refrigerator in rooms are a plus. The restaurant inside the hotel has really good food that isn't expensive. All the staff are friendly and are there to make your experience the best it can be.
