Broke Travelers
You are getting exactly what you're paying for. I was actually surprised that the hotel was better than I had imagined it would be. If your looking for something with easy access to the city, stay in the city. For a short NYE show run without crazy prices, not a bad option.

If you're taking a ferry from the city to the hotel DO NOT WALK! Take a cab regardless of the price-safety first! Also, if you're using an iPhone GPS to get I the hotel, it will initially bring you to the wrong location. Hence why walking isn't the best option!

Recently updated but still needs work.
Rooms are being redone and are nice with all of the usual amenities. The television needs to be replaced, there is no intensity available. I am a lite sleeper so the road noise was a bit much. But that is me.

Acceptable
I am conscious of the fact that I am on an expense account so I always look to spend less that I would had I been on my own. The hotel is 5 minutes from public transport and I get to my water front office in 25 minutes. I also get to the NYC office in about an hour by public trans and 1/2 hour by car. The rooms are clean, the wireless above average, the breakfast - if you can call it that - is skimpy, but by and large all is OK.

Classy forever
not a good place for family
Staff friendly, and rooms is ordinarily clean BUT at night early morning it is quite evident that "ladies of the evening" see this as a good spsot for business. Definitely would never stay there or suggest it to anyone else

great value for the experienced traveler
For the well-seasoned traveler who is looking for best value and convenience, I highly recommend Red Carpet Inn, located in Jersey City. Getting to Manhattan is very easy - just walk "up the hill" (Manhattan Street) and catch the community shuttle that is "Gate 51". The ride costs 3 bucks and crosses to the city thru Lincoln Tunnel. The staff at Red Carpet were polite and helpful. We all slept well. The local area is very dirty, garbage and trash all about and the traffic on Tonnelle is heavy so be careful of crossing the street. All in all, you can easily spend 150 dollars a night staying in Manhattan, or you can half your costs by staying at Red Carpet Inn. Manhattan is already very pricey as it is.

It's perfect if you don't plan on being there for more than a few hours but the bed was hard, the pillows were a joke and well let's just say we don't plan on staying there again. The distance to the city, turnpike and proximity to other attractions and places are great though!

Adequate
The staff was very friendly. The room was small and there was no hand towels. It was nice to have a microwave and refrigator in the room which came in handy. Not much dining close but it was in easy driving distance of Ellis Island.

not very clean....
I had to book a hotel in that area at the last minute for a funeral and this was the only available for a reasonable price. The location wasn't great. it is very difficult to go to Manhattan from there. However, the worst part was the hotel itself. There was a storm on saturday and water from the roof was leaking in the bathtub, making it look really dirty. The towels had someone else hair on it and some had lipstick!!! overall, the place looks kind of run down...

Red Carpet Inn Jersey City
When we arrived there, it was raining. The hotel was leaking several places in the corridor and office. We saw a big washbowl to collect falling down the raindrops from the roof in the office, when we are checking in. The room is relatively small and not so clean. However, the value compared with the price appears O.K.

Low budget travel
If you are on a low budget, this hotel might fit your needs. The maximum stars that you can give is 3 stars so they earned it. Room was clean, staff was courteous, immediate surrounding is so so but located in acceptable neighbourhood. Best value, you walk up manhattan street and take bus #51 straight to 42nd Ave in nyc for a couple of bucks.
