Waste of Money

Worked with a wedding and reception here. Food was ridiculously overpriced with a huge gratuity. The staff was unprofessional and rude. The rooms were not clean. There are far better venues in Charlotte.

Don't waste your money!

We stayed here over night and used it for our wedding ceremony and reception. Sure, it's pretty, but not worth the terrible customer service we received. Our event coordinator was rude, there was a rehearsal booked right before our ceremony so our guests couldn't park, the bricks leading out to our ceremony were tripping everyone, the lawn we were going to eat on was trashed by a party and never repaired, there were yard tools and orange cones left out and about, and our coordinator was so rude to us and never easy to get a hold of. The dinner was good, breakfast was okay (french toast was stale), the bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The place needs a facelift and the staff need to be replaced.

What VanLandingham offers: good grounds for pictures & a place where everyone in your (small) party can stay together. What you should NOT expect from VanLandingham: up to date facilities, a staff that is capable or even interested, any customer service, any attention to catering details, hot water in your room, or sufficient electricity. I stayed at VanLandingham in February as part of a wedding. As I stated above, the positive here is that the grounds can be made to be beautiful for any occasion, & there are enough enough rooms for the core member of any function to be able to stay on the proper together, which is a perk. Aside from that, though, my experience was bad enough for me not to want anyone to have to go through it again. There was no hot water in my room (the "Randolph Scott") for the entire duration of my stay (I had to shower elsewhere); the mattress on the bed was at a 30% pitch, so you almost rolled out while you slept, & trying to sleep on the mattress on the 'day bed' felt like I was sleeping on stacked, wet cardboard boxes. The staff was completely in over there heads. (with the notable exception of Justin) Simple catering details were botched all 3 days (they even forgot the bread for the wedding). A fuse blew while we were trying to get ready for the wedding, leaving us without electricity for 20 minutes. When I tried calling Carolyn Jordan, the Guest Services Manager for both this facility & the Morehead Inn, to alert her to some of the issues we'd gone through, she didn't seem surprised by our experience & made no effort to ameliorate the situation. When I said I would write as many reviews as I could so anyone else who chose to use their facilities would go in with their eyes open, only then did she seem at all interested. (disclaimer: she then offered to refund me $50 off my room fee, which I declined) I invite you to make your own decision, but please know: where they promise 'grace, elegance, & sophistication,' you will get only disinterest, ineptitude, & severely out-dated facilities. Maybe go take your pictures at VanLandingham, but you'd honestly have a better time hosting your event at your Grandmother's house.
