i take other's ratings seriously. i had read good and bad things about this hotel, and was nervous about booking a room. I am so glad we did. the check in was smooth and easy. hotel is decorated in a very modern style. room was clean and beds very soft. hotel bar was very nice place to hang out. That Saturday was warm, so they opened the garage doors to the pool and cabanas outside. that night we took advantage of the cheap rates for the in house town car service and went out. slept good that night, and used the express checkout in the morning. thoroughly enjoyed my trip. (just wish we'd known there is a charge to park each night at the hotel, 13.00)

Meh!
Great location, great renovation in common/public areas from what I could see. The staff was very friendly. But, the rooms need a little work if the hotel wants to stay competitive at this price point.. There was a (what I hope was ketchup) stain on the bottom of comforter; the elec outlet for the master room key was popping out of the wall and I think the design of the shower glass is a bit impractical for running the hot water before you enter it. They also did a sloppy job of regrouting/painting around the shower. These are not big items to fix but would make for a more impressionable experience. Also, the 'free' shuttle was not free (at least not on wknds) and the complimentary bfast may not be available for wknd stays; as we were told they only had a 'full service' breakfast. These last two items were not deal-breakers for me but clarifying this for patrons would help some of the bad reviews I've seen.

Not a great experience
I chose this hotel for the free shuttle to and from a concert at time Warner. I had previously called the hotel and was told that they would run a shuttle until 1130 pm. We were put into a cab by the doorman on the way there and waited 20 min after the concert in the cold for the "shuttle" back. We took a cab when no one arrived. So in addition to having to pay $13 to park in the hotel parking lot during our stay, we had to pay an additional $20 in cab fare. If I had known this, I would've just gotten a cheaper hotel near the airport and driven. Btw. The desk says shuttle only runs 2 hrs in the morning. This is not what I had been told. There are no extras- no coffee maker, no shampoo (only shower gel) no free breakfast- there is a charge for everything. Would not stay here again.

Upgrade
The carpet and the walls in the room were dirty. For the amount of money this hotel charges, their elevator should be up to date. On the flip side, the staff is very nice and helpful.

Great hotel, comfy rooms
I was hesitant after looking at the exterior, but the inside of this hotel is beautiful. The rooms are great. Only thing that held it back was the proximity to the center of Uptown. Great value.

Great option for convention center conference
Staff were very friendly. Rooms were comfortable and a great value. Within easy walking distance of the Convention Center. Free internet available in lobby, although not free in rooms. Only problem was that keys frequently demagnetized (and they were not near a cell phone); by end of trip I would get my key rekeyed every time before I rode the elevator up to my room.

Charlotte Convention Center visit
The Blake is an older hotel that appears to be in the process of remodeling. The lobby was contemporary and clean and the staff, friendly and courteous. The rooms were clean with quality linens and towels. The room was quiet, bed and pillows comfortable, and the bathroom clean and contemporary with plenty of hot water. I would probably have gone with 4 stars were it not for a twitchy thermostat that was difficult to set resulting in a room that was either a little too warm or too cold and a low mounted shower head that was located below my chin (for reference, I’m 6 ft tall). Some dated aspects to the room included wall paper with a couple patches in place, carpeting, and shower valve trim. In the end, I had a nice clean room and a quiet comfortable stay at a very reasonable price.
