Disappointing Race Weekend Getaway

I never write reviews and can honestly say that most reviews I read are negative; taking the time to write one myself, I now understand why there are more negative reviews of hotels online. This review will encompass lessons learned and things to think about when choosing another hotel and I hope this aides families in the future when deciding on a family friendly hotel. - Staff - Upon check in, it was apparent that customer service was going to be questionable when I posed the questions of adding my stay to my points onto my acct, where I encountered attitude from the male attendant. There were other attendants there were unprofessionally dressed when behind the counter. It was hard to understand who was on duty or who was an employee that came in after hours to work behind the desk; unprofessional for a like type hotel. - Pull Out Couch - when getting ready to depart and pack out the car, I attempted to take all of the linen from the pull out couch (where the children slept) I noticed a very large stain that was not caused by my children. It was however to have been there for a while and was quite disgusting, having observed this at check in I would have most likely requested another room. - Pillow - There were not enough pillows in the room to accommodate both the pull out couch and the master bed. - Pool - The pool was in need of shocking and cleaning; it was a Indoor / Outdoor pool that sold us on the hotel for the kids, but after allowing the kids in it for one night, we elected to not allow them back to the pool / hot tub area. No enforcement of bottled alcoholic beverages in the pool area; it needed screened as well and it was obvious that it did not have the needed attention a SMALL pool needed. Also there were separators between the indoor segment and the outdoor portion and they were in need of cleaning. The recycling system of water was turned off and it seemed the filtration was in need of attention. - Telephone - I had phoned the front desk for an extra pillow where the phone mic on the phone did not work. - GFI near sink - Did not work, I though the Iron was broken but it was just the GFI electrical switch would not reset or work prior to resetting; and obvious code violation. - Dogs - Dogs were constantly barking and walking. - Plywood - There was raw plywood that the small refrigerator was placed on. Understandably that there was a need for it, but it was just unpleasant to the eyes and called attention to something being wrong. - Bugs - Baby cockroaches were observed in the bathroom near the trash, eluding that mama must be near by. I did not see any large cockroaches but I mistakenly took these as ants at first and then looked closer and it proved to be baby cockroaches. Going back to the issues with everything else in the room and I wasn't surprised. All in all the kids had not idea there was anything wrong with the stay or the room and we spend more time away from the room due to the race (for obvious reasons above), but give the opportunity to stay at this hotel again in the future, I would gladly pay more to stay at the alternative down the street even after the great deal on a 3 party hotel reservation.

Hidden changes

I think that the next time I visit NC, I will look to stay at another facility. I don't like being lied to about billing information. Charging my CD for whatever is ridiculous. When you check out, the facility should be able to tell if you billed anything to your room and that should be cared for at that time. Do Not bill my card AFTER you tell me you are not going to. Not once did this happen but twice and the attitude of Mr. Cecil was nothing short of rude!

Pretty Good

Overall a good stay. The staff was not helpful. There was no one around to check us in, no bell, no sign, no person They never replaced the battery in the smoke detector when it died and they took an incredibly long time to replace things, such as milk, when it ran out at breakfast.

Things to consider:

1. The breakfast is nothing to be excited about. No hot food and the food provided is vending machine quality. 2. Remember, you are very close to a University. Do expect parties, drunk college students and disruption all night long (with little help from the desk). 3. Items left in your room not being turned in to the front desk (thus a lost forever item). 4. Though nice front desk workers, front desk manager was very rude and unwilling to help even in the slightest inconveniences (Needing change for a $20.00, needing to add an extra night to our stay without giving up our room for 3 hours to wait till "Check in time", room given to us reeked of smoke and they denied it, and the big issue of the party that went on all night across the hall from us). 5. Expect little refund when you find your visit not satisfactory. Honestly, when it came down to it, it could have been a good experience if the staff had more flexibility in what they could accomodate. I feel the management has restricted them too much, thus they were willing to help, but unable.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Ikea is right around the corner. :-) Thai House restaurant (right around the corner) was the best Thai I've ever had Family owned "second hand" shop next to Thai House was full to the brim of everything you can imagine that was used (but still good quality and good price).

Weekend Stay

My family of 4 and I stayed at this hotel in 1 room with 2 double beds. It is an average hotel, not terrible, not great. The room did need a little modern upgrade furniture wise, but was okay. Shopping, dinning and activities are less than 1 mile from the hotel. I would recommend it for a typical weekend stay.
