Once-historic bank becomes modern Minneapolis luxury
The downtown Westin Minneapolis is a faithful blend of historic significance and modern luxury. Transformed from the Farmers & Mechanics Bank, this Tony four-star hotel retains the original World War II era woodwork, marble staircase and vaulted lobby. Guest rooms are equipped with modern amenities like MP3 players, flat-screen TVs and Internet access (fees apply). Following adventure on the town, the end-of-day rewards here are plenty: an indoor pool cloaked in midnight blue, a dimly lit cocktail lounge and a savory dish or decadent treat at B.A.N.K.
Highlights
- The penthouse patio boasts panoramic views of the city
- Original bank vault converted into a wine cellar at B.A.N.K.
- Partake in a true "no interruption" function in the hotel's vault-secured meeting room
- Walking distance to Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis Convention Center, Metrodome, Target Center and Hennepin Theatre District

Girls weekend
From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. Even though I live 7 miles from this hotel, I felt like I was on a luxury vacation from the time I walked through the door. I was a little worried that at such a nice hotel our girls weekend maybe a bit poo-pooed having 8 girls in two rooms but we never got that impression. The staff was great and let us know that whatever we needed they were available. We were able to take a quick stroll down Nicollet Ave to a great dinner spot. We did the same thing in the morning for breakfast (we could have eaten at the hotel's resturant but wanted to venture out). The room was nicely decorated, felt a bit narrow but overall very clean and comfortable. We were very pleased with our stay and always felt important as the staff greeted us with pleasantries each time we came in or out of the hotel. Valet, while expensive, was timely and saved on downtown parking headaches. We were already talking about coming back again!

Very nice room
POSITIVE: I think this was a great hotel in perfect location. I came here for my 21st birthday and was able to easily walk a couple blocks up or down to many different clubs, bars, and restaurants. Can't beat that! The room was very clean and the beds were like clouds. The hotel and room were decorated very nicely and there was a cool bar and restaurant downstairs. Great showers, marble bathroom vanities, and very comfortable beds. NEGATIVE: However, there were a few downsides. The hotel does not have on-site parking (except to valet park for $30 per day) so you have to find a lot in Minneapolis that lets you park overnight. We ended up doing the ramp across the street and it ended up being $27 for 6PM - 10AM (I should have just done the valet!) and was very confusing to find the entrance back into the garage, but it could be because I am not very familiar with downtown. Also, when we got back to the hotel around midnight, we were craving some late-night snacks and the only non-dessert item they had available was a chicken wrap for $14. They also charge a $3 "delivery charge" and include a 20% service charge and then still leave a line for you to tip. I wrote "included". So this chicken wrap which ended up being extremely dry was over $20. That's quite expensive for what I got, in my opinion. Also, if you want wireless internet that will cost you an extra $13/day. OVERALL: It is a nice hotel with great amenities and rooms, but the extras will definitely cost you.

St. Patrick's Day Getaway!
I booked my reservations last minute for St. Patrick's Day and was nervous about what I might have to settle for. I was extremely impressed with EVERYTHING! From the time I pulled up to valet parking, to the immediate attention & assistance when I walked in the door to the front desk staff who were smiling, pleasant and extremely helpful. My philosophy when I stay at a hotel is that cleanliness is expected (they exceeded my expecations) however people make the difference and everyone at the Westin was marvelous! I will definately plan on staying there again. It was a five star experience for location, cleanliness and an attentitive staff. Thank you!
