Close to University
Older sort of hotel, Days Inn look and feel and what you would expect from that chain but charges 130 USD on the weekends due to location I guess. Walking distance to U of MN. The website doesnt mention that yet but it has a tiny gym now.

Good value
The staff could not have been more courteous and helpful. It is a "no frills" place in a great location. It is well maintained and the rooms are clean.

My stay at Days Inn was very average. The bathroom was much too small for my liking. The bed was adequate but not impressively comfortable. The room was fairly clean. The TV worked but selection of tv stations was sparse. The hotel wasn't bad, but I like something a bit more upscale.

Decent room. Very poor management.
My hotel itself was decent enough, but it was made complicated by a mistake the weekend manager was responsible for during my stay. After I complained at check-out, the manager said the general manager of the hotel would respond to my question by the next afternoon. After she didn't get back to me, I called the hotel to speak to her and was given her voicemail. She replied the following afternoon and left a message explaining the hotel's stance and asked me to call back if I still had questions. I called back within a few minutes and once again got her voicemail. I asked for a call back and also called the Days Inn Customer Service line to formally file my complaint, and they asked me to call back if the general manager did not get back to me within three business days. The general manager did not return my call or respond to the complaint within three business days, so I called the customer service line back and they started the procedure for having my complaint advanced. After another week or more of waiting, as well as another follow-up call to the customer service line, a manager at corporate finally got back to me and said I would be refunded in full for my stay and inconvenience. The refund itself took another week and a half, but I was happy that my complaint had finally been dealt with. In short, while the rooms themselves are okay, I would discourage you from dealing directly with the general manager when a complaint results from your stay. Her professionalism was very poor with regards to getting back to me and I was not happy with management overall during my stay at this hotel. If you do decide to have a room here, keep this in mind and go directly to corporate with any issues or concerns.

Horrible experience!
I do not recommend the Days Inn Hotel University AV Minneapolis MN at all, It smells bad, the service is bad. I did book two rooms one for my wife and myself one for my kids, we arrived late and we found the two rooms somewhat acceptable, and by acceptable I mean we were not going to find another hotel @ 1AM besides I did pay in advance so we did bit the bullet and decided to stay. I can't decide what was worst, the dingy smell or the age of the carpets and the linens (the bed sheets were almost transparent) the towels were almost rags. We did endure the first night and forgot about it, we were so busy with appointments and meetings with teachers that we had to arrive back at the hotel very late again, just to find out that my kids' room was not clean at all, everything was dirty and all the garbage was all inside the room (we did order pizza the night before) so you can imagine the room... The other room was not vacuumed or dusted and the bed was just pulled poorly in to place. The next morning I complained at the front desk and the only thing I got was “Oh I’m sorry but since you paid in advance there is nothing I can do” So my advice is do not pay in advance and do not stay at this hotel, it is truly horrible. I hope you fellow traveler can save yourself and can bank on my bad experience at the Days Inn Hotel University AV Minneapolis MN

You get what you pay for
This hotel was very reasonably priced. Great location near the University of Minnesota with free parking. The rooms were small but clean. Breakfast was lacking compared to similar hotels.

Good experience!
A very inexpensive stay for being so close to downtown Minneapolis and right next to the University. The staff was very friendly and helpful, my room was always kept clean, the main areas of the hotel were also clean, and free parking was the best! I looked over and over for hotels in the city and this was the ONLY one with free parking. There is also a shuttle that will take you to certain places around town. Although I didn't utilize it as I had friends nearby, this would be a very nice service to take advantage of. Considering the construction in the area, the location isn't the prettiest at the moment, but I still had no trouble getting to/from the hotel. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend Days Inn University Ave. especially to those visiting for sporting events or the college.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
For downtown attractions, I found it easier to take University Ave towards Oak St onto 4th Street and follow it to the end on 1st Ave. 1st Ave then turns into Hennepin Ave which runs through the heart of downtown. You'll avoid a lot of rush hour & construction traffic on I-94 this way.

I have been at this hotel several times. Simple breakfast, great shuttle, internet at the lobby (I could not make it work from my room), clean, safe, and perfect location. Best value in Saint Paul - Minneapolis area. Three stars when ranked with the most expensive hotels in the area. Five stars for its value to me

Short walk from U of MN
Flew into MSP, this Memorial weekend. Took light rail system 15 mins to MetroDome station, then walked 30 mins to the Hotel passing through U of MN campus (I am fit and enjoy walking, scenery). There was a lot of construction/detours to go around, but seeing the campus for the first time made was worth the walk. Interestingly, the area was kind of a ghost town. I probably counted less then a dozen people walking the streets, maybe 4 cyclist, and only a few cars; I literally walked the middle of the streets and ignored many red lights. The hotel met all expectations, I only slept for about 4 hours having spent most of the time at the bars a block away; well equipped with drinks and games.

Ok for short...
An OK place for a short stay when you're busy elsewhere during the day. Lots of construction just across the hotel would make a relaxing stay in the hotel challenging. But that is temporary.
