Perfect Detroit Stay

I love the Ferry Inn! I have stayed three times now while visiting family in the area. It is a charming historic hotel within close proximity to the Detroit Institute of Arts, Motown Museum, great new restaurants, and more. They have free shuttle service in the area. Fantastic breakfast in the morning and pleasant staff. For a visit to Detroit, it is a great option especially if you are someone who appreciates history and culture.

Great for our visit to the art museum

Very convenient location to the Cultural Campus; near to the Amtrak Station. Hotel was very nice. The breakfast was great; served in The Scott House, where we stayed. Only negative was the desk staff, located just below our room was chatting among themselves--loudly for a while--it wasn't annoying enough to complain. They settled down around 9PM. Nice comfortable place.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are not many nearby restaurants. For a very casual lunch one day and dinner the next, we found the Circa 1890 Pub, about 4 blocks away. A throw-back to the 1970's college campus pizza pub style. Great sandwiches, pizza; not loud or too crowded; prices reasonable for food and bar.

Hidden gem

If you're looking for a hotel different from the major chains near downtown this is an excellent choice! Charming, multi-building inn fashioned out of former residences, this is a great value and great experience. Rooms are large and elegantly appointed, free parking, free internet, free (and excellent) breakfast, close to downtown, in the arts district are some of the highlights of the Inn on Ferry St. I would highly recommend this place!

Historic Stay

The Inn on Ferry Street, made up of 4 beautiful Victorian homes built in the late 1800's is perfectly situated in the heart of Detroit's cultural center. The room was very well equipped and included a small coffee maker. Breakfast was also included with the price of the room. A nice selection of foods and beverages. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. For those that need it, a shuttle is available to get around. I loved the location, a short walking distance to The Detroit Institute of Arts, a fantastic museum with it's beautiful Diego Rivera Court, The Detroit Historical museum and several others. Also within short walking distance is Wayne State University, which includes several building designed by Minoru Yamasaki. While not the heart of Detroit's restaurant scene, there are several nice restaurants in the area that you can easily walk to. I really enjoyed my stay at The inn on Ferry Street and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Head over to Detroit's Eastern Market. There you'll find a wide variety of shops like Detroit Mercantile Co, Salt & Cedar letterpress studio, Signal-Return Letterpress Shop, Germack Pistachio Co and DeVries & Co 1887 to name a few. There's also several nice dining options.
