Good Experience
Great hotel, beautiful buliding and location, great price. The only issues I had were that there was no parking, and the air conditioner barley worked. It was like sleeping in a sweat box. With that being said the bed was comfy and I would stay there again, I would just remember to bring a fan :)

Excellent overnighter!
We we only in town for a couple days, but we were really glad we went with the St. Regis. We didn't take advantage of everything (like the hotel restaurant), but the price and service were great, it's just around the block from the Fisher Theatre and the building was a cool attraction in itself. I saw a few other comments saying the location wasn't great or that they were unhappy paying for parking, but you can't expect to stay in the city without $ for parking or a few vagrants and this IS downtown Detroit. There is a ton of renovation and re/construction going on right now in the city, too, and it's really cool to be so close to such a huge revitalization project. Some of the streets still really need repair, but this is great place to stay if you need a cool, affordable place to check out downtown and visit some of the shops/attractions.

Oldie, but goodie.
This hotel was built in 1966 as the most expensive hotel in Detroit... and it shows. They try for the old world glitz and glamor, but fall a bit short where it counts. The staff is amazingly helpful, the lobby looks awesome, and the food in the lounge is quite good. However, the rooms look a bit weathered and aged. The furniture was modern, but with faded fabric. The bathroom had updated fixtures, but an old tub/toilet. On the plus side, I didn't pay much for the room and I feel it was worth what I paid. The hotel is a 5 minute cab ride from downtown Detroit, which is nice, but has very little to offer right beside it.

Disgusting!
It's a shame that this review has to be a negative one. I travel often and am very particular about hotels I stay in. I look for cleanliness over luxury. OMNI hotels never let me down. The front desk folks are wonderful, the building itself is beautiful and old world and the food in the restaurant was great. The problems start and stay in the room. They are disgusting. I didn't realize until late into the evening that the toilet had not been cleaned. It was so brown that the maintenance worker didn't think it was cleanable. The bathtub had hair in it before I stepped into it. A toothpick under the bed entered through my shoe into my big toe and there was a dirty tissue in the garbage can. While housekeeping was there I asked for them to change the sheets because they were so wrinkled, he said they always look like that. How can you tell when they are clean I asked? He became annoyed with me. I stayed because he disinfected the toilet in my presence. Why move into another room and not know what I would get there? At the end of checkout while looking for something that dropped on the floor, I found a wallet. Not mine and I was the only one in the room. Must off belonged to a prior guest. I left it on the window sill and informed housekeeping. Two friends that were sharing a room across from me had to move because the room was like a sauna. They were told the air conditioning was broken in the hotel, meanwhile in my room I had to cover myself with more clothes because it was too cold. I went to help another friend to her room and it smelled like a bowel movement. It's just a nasty place. Forgot to mention the stains on the curtains right next to the bed. You cannot walk around the neighborhood. Not safe and you need a cab to go to the nearest decent restaurant outside the hotel. Never again. Too bad. The employees are such great folks.

Good value, difficult location
This hotel from Detroit's glory days represents a good value. The rooms are large and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. The problem comes down to location. There's nothing that you can walk to and straying very far at all puts you in no man's land. With a car you should be fine. Downtown is only about three miles away, the magnificent Detroit Institute of Arts, half that far. Cabs seem few and far between in Detroit, busses unpredictable. The hotel would do well to have a shuttle running hourly down Woodward Avenue.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is an absolute treasure. The Diego Rivera court with Rivera's epic Ford mural is worth the $8 admission itself. For outsider art lovers, the Heidelberg Project, 3600 Heidelberg Avenue is a must see,

Good value and location
Previous reviews had left me somewhat hesitant about this hotel, but everything was perfect. The only problem I had was no wifi reception in my original room. They immediately moved me, so it worked out, but that would be something to check into before finalizing a reservation if internet access is vital. Limited room service hours, but the food was decent. Customer service was fine, not at all like it was reviewed by others.

The New Center Park across the street has all kinds of events. Hung out for a bit listening to jazz one day. The next day was electronic/house music.
