A taste of European elegance in the middle of Baltimore

The Inn and Spa at the Colonnade Baltimore, a Doubletree Hotel, sits right across from Johns Hopkins University campus. With the Central Business District and Inner Harbor waterfront less than three miles to the south, the retreat also is well positioned for business travelers and Baltimore explorers. Biedermeier-inspired furnishings accentuate the European vibe and the on-site Alizée Boutique Bistro and Wine Bar serves French cuisine with an Asian twist -- think teriyaki-glazed salmon with roasted fingerling potatoes and soy beurre blanc.

fabulous stay

This is a perfect location for visiting Johns Hopkins, right across the street. Anything we asked for came within minutes and the front desk staff was always helpful and friendly. They advised us on the safest way to travel to our destinations, which in most cases was a cab. The beds were very comfortable and the room layout made it easy for 4 people to be get ready for the day.

BEAUTIFUL clean and friendly

I arrived at the hotel to be greeted by 2 nice receptionist, that quickly got me setup with my room and keys. I stayed for 2 night and must say couldnt find anything wrong with the hotel, it was clean, nicely decorated and the personal was friendly. The wifi was also available everywhere, but this was rather slow. <1mbps up and down. certainly not enough for video conferencing or any streaming services

Good Stay

The check-in process was smooth and the hotel room was clean. The room wasn't too big or too small; I was traveling alone so I'd say it was an acceptable size. One bad thing about the room was when I walked in, it was 86 degrees in there! Sure, it might have been in the 20s-30s outside, but 86 degrees was way too uncomfortable. I had to turn off the heater just to get the temperature down. Other than that, however, the room was nice. I ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Alizée, since it was snowing outside and I couldn't leave the garage without having to pay again. The food there was alright. I ordered a burger, which was a bit on the dry side, and fries, which had a tad too much salt. It was a pleasant dining experience, though. The staff was friendly and since there weren't too many people at the hotel, it was easy to get served. Checking out was a breeze. However, when I tried leaving the garage, the machine wouldn't take my card, so I had to go back to the front desk to pay there. Oh, and that's another thing about this hotel: it only has a pay garage and you have to pay every time you leave, even if you're a guest. Overall, though, I think this hotel is a great choice if you're looking to visit Johns Hopkins (which is literally across the street) or if you want to visit Baltimore but want to be away from the business of the Inner Harbor.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Alizée is pretty good. The reviews they post around the hotel hail it as a 4-star restaurant, but I don't think it was THAT great. Nonetheless, the food was tasty and I wouldn't mind eating there again.

Perfect location for JohnsHopkins

We visited our child at Johns Hopkins University, right across the street. The pool was closed unfortunately. And the fire alarm went off at midnight, and the signal kept going for a good 10 minutes even after we were allowed back inside. But, the hotel staff is wonderful, the place is spotlessly clean, and we will stay there as long as our child is at the university.Or if we are visiting Baltimore and want a convenient location.

Time-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

The Inner Harbor and Little Italy, with restaurants, museums and the waterfront attractions, are both a short drive from the hotel.

Snazzy Hotel

The staff, location, and rooms were extremely satisfactory, but seeing pets in and out of hotel and the smelly hallway did not set well with me.

Would not recommend

Arrived at hotel at 4 p.m. on date that we were scheduled to arrive and were told that although I had reserved a non-smoking room [...], they did not have one for me. The hotel appeared to be empty, a veritable ghost town. I could not believe that in that huge hotel they could not find one non-smoking room for us. The room reeked of stale cigarette smoke, was located next to the dumpster and very noisy and the entire hotel was freezing cold. We were so disappointed and angry that we left a day early, even though we had a non-refundable reservation. [...]

NOT BAD

We've never had to pay for parking at a hotel before so that was culture shock. Also aggrevating having to wait for the valet to bring the car around. The staff was very accommodating when we returned to the front desk after making our way to our first room. We heard the party going on in the next room from the elevator. There must have been at least 20 college aged kids in the room. They put us in another suite, but our reservation was for a room with two queen beds. Our son slept uncomfortably on a pull out couch. At least the room was quiet. The location is great if you're there for John Hopkins University. The surrounding area is nice. I however thought that we would be closer to the Inner Harbor Area. My fault I guess for not doing more careful research.
