barely ok
ok, i will start off with the good first. The staff, a young bunch of recent college grads for the most part, was extemely nice and helpful. they were great!! ok, now for the not so good....parking is a hassle...i guess that's the norm at city hotels though....not in the greatest area of town....good only if you are an out of town fan that is going to TD Garden. the room is very small, but very clean. they up-charge you for everything.....internet, printing something, parking, etc....a bit annoying to me. I would only recommend staying here if you get a great rate.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
take the tour trolleys....$38 for two days...picks you up a block from the hotel at TD Garden. takes you all over town and gives insight on all the historical sites and places of interest. you can get on and off as you wish....this was the best deal ever!

Great location
Very close to airport and Cambridge. On a back street where there are a few bars ... so request a room in the back. Bathroom needs more hooks for towels once used: there was only one. Nice robes and bath products. Rooms ending in 1 and 2 are very close so ask for something over #5 that is also away from the elevators. Why are doors in hotels never soundproof? We cold hear people in the hall easily but that's probably all hotels. Great staff!! and Really good organic free coffee in the lobby every morning. The room service food was not good and, as usual, very expensive. Then they add 18% gratuity on that. Luckily there is an Au Bon Pain across the street but only open weekdays.

One night Trip
I booked this hotel for a one night stay. It's the perfect distance if you plan on attending a Celtics game at TD Garden. Hotel staff was friendly and inviting. I requested extra towels to my room which arrived in less than 10 minutes. The room was clean and nice. Only con I encountered was the $45 cost to valet my car which I thought was too expensive.

Quick trip for some baseball
I love kimpton hotels, and I've stayed at several in different cities. The Onyx is a veery basic Kimpton, no extra frills, but the location in Boston's North Side neighborhood is walking distance to the T and a variety of touristy places. Even on crutches, it was easy to get around. Because I was on crutches, the staff seemed extra helpful in assisting with requests I would normally handle myself: calling cabs, making reservations, etc. The only issue I had, which I'm sure was an oversight on my part, was that the continental breakfast was not complimentary. In fact it was $15, and because I had trouble carrying things (and there was no one obvious on staff to help) I ended up paying $15 for an apple and an English muffin. Perhaps there was a sign I missed, though I'm pretty observant, but additional signage would've been extremely appreciated. Otherwise, sign up for the kimpton in touch program and enjoy staying at Kimpton hotels everywhere!

Great hotel for work or fun
Living up to the Kimpton brand, this hotel is a solid choice. It is a little more utilitarian than some Kimptons but still very nice. And, if you're into walking, you can get to many Boston attractions on foot. The staff was great.
