Such a disappointment!

Even though we live close by, I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a birthday weekend getaway in Boston. I had in mind a luxurious experience and so chose what I thought would be a luxurious hotel. When we arrived, there was a bit of consternation, after which the manager informed us that we were "getting an upgrade." He had one of his staff lead us to the Gold tower, where she explained about the complementary breakfast, snacks, and desserts. The only problem: our room was tiny with a queen bed and almost no room to walk around it. I had purchased and prepaid for a king room. So I called the front desk (which is separate for Gold). The young woman assured me that she would find another room and call me back. When I had not heard from her, I went downstairs to be told that the main desk kept putting her on hold and that she would walk over. She did this and came back with keys to a king room in another building. This room did indeed have a king, and a view of the entrance. So I called to see if there was something else. The manager assured me that he would get back to me, but once again I had to walk to the front desk, only to be told that this was their only available king unless I wanted to switch rooms the next night. While it was a perfectly acceptable room, it was not worth the price I paid for it. The hour's worth of shuffling around put a damper on our enthusiasm for the trip and I was angered that the manager had essentially lied to us about giving us an upgrade. A queen bed is not an upgrade from a king, no matter how many freebies you throw in. And to tell me that you don't have a king available when I've PREPAID for it is simply unacceptable. The insult added to the injury was that we returned from dinner with pastry we had picked up in the North End only to find that there was no room in the refrigerator, which was stocked full of over-priced items for us to purchase. Add paying for wifi to that and all I can say is that this was a very stingy hotel experience. I will not stay here ever again. Both the Park Plaza and the Revere offer a better experience than the Battery Wharf did. Heck, the Hampton Inn offers a better experience for a quarter of the price.

it was fantastic

I was a nice 3 night`s that I spend in Boston, I loved the place and the location and the view were perfect, and the staff were helpful and very friendly. but the think that you don't have to pay for the higher rate cause the most of the time you will spend it out, and you would not receive your desert :( . over all it was Prefect.

downside of Fairmont

The Hotel was nice the staff was outstanding. Way over priced. We ordered room service at 5:10pm and were told it would arrive about a half hour later. One hour later I called the front desk and told them. It seems they forgot about our order, so around 8:oopm we got our food (spaghetti and meatballs) the meatballs were like tennis balls, and there was a hair in my spaghetti. The whole thing was bad and it cost $73.00. Recommendation - ok place to stay, do not eat there the North End is a five minute walk

Never again

Before I go on my rant, I have to say that the desk staff were perfectly fine and professional. Instead of writing a big synopsis, I'll just list the things that I found unacceptable of a facility that is marketed and presented as upscale and with their pricing: Room- (#3210), VERY dusty, pedestal lamp in serious disrepair (about to fall apart) lamp shade had what looked like a big old snot blown on it. Conditioner but no shampoo?? Really?? Handle on shower door is about to come off, and there's lights with burned out bulbs. Staff- this room is apparently located above the valet stand. The phone rang all night, on and off, valet personnel yelling at or to each other. Same with other guests outside waiting on taxis at 2am, yet no staff looking to get it under control. Really? Why can I hear this?? Any of it?? I will say that the desk staff was great upon arrival, and upon departure the scrubbed a $27 bar tab (big deal) as an apology. Just wasn't worth the $425 (including parking) for one of their cheapest rooms. I've traveled all over the hemisphere and stayed at some truly luxurious properties. This was not one of them. When checking out, there was another couple in line complaining about similar issues.

System Failure

Overall our stay was great. However, much to our surprise -and shortly after we checked in to our room - another couple used their key card to open our door. I think it was a system failure, but should be thoroughly evaluated - with backup plan - when necessary.

So disappointed!

I stayed here a few years ago and thought it was wonderful. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time. My Saturday night reservation requested a rollaway bed since my son was coming up from college to join my daughter and I for a weekend in the city. I called on Thursday to check on the reservation and the rollaway request and was told we were all set. When we checked in I was told the rollaway bed would be in the room. When it wasn't, the bellman said it would be brought up by 8:00 pm. When we returned from dinner there still wasn't a rollaway bed. At 8:40 pm, I called the front desk and was told that housekeeping would bring it right up. At 9:10 pm, I received a phone call that said they were sorry but they did not have any more roll away beds, could they make up a bed on the floor. We would not have checked into a room with only one bed and we did not book a five star hotel to sleep on the floor. We left the hotel at 10:00 pm and drove 20 minutes to a hotel because all of the hotels in the city were full. Not at all what I would expect from a five star hotel. Very disappointed and it ruined our plans for a weekend in Boston.

Fancy Living

We had a really great stay at the Fairmont. The room was on the ground floor and didn't really have a view (just some shrubbery) but the room was extremely comfortable and luxurious. Bathroom was nice and big and the room was kept very clean and turned down twice a day. The in room coffee was really good as well. Small annoyances. The fridge was fully stocked with expensive minibar stuff, but that meant there wasn't much room for our leftovers. Also there was no microwave. Sadly there was no pool, but it didn't seem like many hotels in downtown Boston had pools. Also, in order to use the internet for free (instead of the $15 a day change), you had to sign up for their free rewards program. The online registration didn't work from my iPad and I got annoyed, but I was able to just fill out a tiny form at the front desk and there were no problems. I didn't get charged for the internet. And finally, the parking at the hotel is valet only, which means it's pricey (and they took a long time to bring our car around the one time we did it). For the remainder of our trip we paid half as much and parked around the corner in an open public lot. Overall I would recommend this hotel, just be on the lookout for cheaper parking.
