Poor Orbitz Experience

When we arrived at the hotel they could not find our reservation. The woman proceeded to tell me they had no reservation under my name, and sent us to the Marriot at Copley. She told us that Orbitz and Orbitz' website was open and taking reservations for Saturday night when the hotel was full and the site shouldn't have been open. The hotel was fine (the lobby, atleast), but I definitely would be hesitant to book with Orbitz again after this dilemma.

Hotel stay

Our coffee maker was broken and our remote for the tv didn't work well. When it rained there was a strong smell in the bathroom from the toilet. It was so bad that the maid even turned her nose up at it and called a technician to come fix it. It would go away for a short time only to reappear later.

The person checking me in refused

The person checking me in refused to let me stay in any room but the smallest, located by the elevator (part of the room was cut out to allow for the elevator shaft). I offered to pay extra for another room, but she told me that "no larger rooms are available," which was not true. I assume I was refused anything but the worst possible room (not even the bathroom door locked or closed) because I was a middle aged female. I will never stay at the Colonnade again.

So so seevice

The room is nice period. Lacks natural as well as artificial light. I had to call for towels every day and one of the ones I got was literally a piece of rag.

Generally Good

All hotels in Boston are supposed to be no smoking. Smoke poured through the large gap from between my room and the room next door. I reported it to the front desk, but it happened every day I was there. I have stayed here several times and haven't had an issue, but not so good this time. Moved to another hotel down the street the third night and had a great room with no smoke.

Not bad overall

Fantastic location...right across from the Prudential Center, only 2 blocks or so from all the shopping and restaurants you could want, and the T stop (subway) was literally right outside the front door, which made traveling ridiculously easy the entire trip. Everything was great about the hotel except for the hours of the roof top pool (if it's on the roof, why does it need to close at 8 p.m.?) and the lack of free internet service (which costs 15 bucks for 24 hours of access).

be aware of the parking fees

Had a great time in Boston. The location of this hotel is so perfect. Public transportation (T) is right outside the front door. The Prudential center across the street has everything you could need including a visitor's center and the Sky walk. Fenway was cool. The pool was closed for a wedding on the only day that we were able to use it. We went to Boston for our 1 year anniversary. It was kind of hard to be romantic with my husband when there was a room full of little boys next door. The walls are verrrrrry thin. We could hear every word they said. We liked the contemporary decor of the room and the bed was verrry soft. The pillows were great too. I'm not sure why, but every morning we had such terrible back aches. One thing I loved was the windows that opened. That's hard to find in a hotel these days. Make sure to ask for a room that faces the Prudential building for a great view! Also... the thing we liked least-- we weren't told about any parking fees when we booked. It's about $40 a night. They will not tell you about it, they will just charge your credit card. So BE AWARE beforehand. And I'm pretty sure that parking at the Prudential center is half the price, so look into that before parking at the Colonnade. Shopping is great on Newbury Street! The grocery store across the street is open 24 hrs.
