Taste a little history without spending a fortune! Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, our 1840's townhouse makes the perfect spot to begin and end your days of French Quarter discovery." Somehow, a shiny new hotel doesn't seem quite right for New Orleans. More appropriate is slightly faded, somewhat threadbare elegance, and the Lamothe House fits the bill. The Creole style plain facade of the 1840's townhouse hides the atmosphere you are looking for - a mossy, stone-lined courtyard with a fish-filled fountain, banana trees and rooms filled with antiques that are worn in all the right places, but not shabby. It's a short walk to the action in the Quarter and just a couple of blocks to the bustling Frenchman scene. "On a steamy night, sitting in the courtyard breathing the fresh air, your can feel yourself slip out of time," - Frommer's Guide Enjoy original Victorian antiques, a lush courtyard with fish pond and pool. Louisiana-roast coffee and a selection of teas are available day and night.

Quiet small hotel on the border of French Quarter

Lamothe House is a very nice old house, with old furniture but very comfortable bed. Its location at the border of French Quarter, on the quiet Esplanade avenue, is perfect for enjoying by foot the wonderful galleries and shops that are unique in New Orleans, without being annoyed by the noise of the fiestas every night on Bourbon street. The rooms are very small and do not have windows opening on the exterior, you can feel confined. The patio with the small pool is a small tropical paradise.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Gumbo Shop at 630 St Peter St offers the best local menu, in the heart of French quarter, around a quiet patio, for a very acceptable price.

Excellent location

When I first walked in I thought I had made a terrible mistake. The downstairs was under construction and a mess. Check in was brief. I was placed in a suite outside that had its own outside access and a key controlled gate to the street. These outer parts of the hotel had been renovated already and were all new. It was like an apartment. Wood floors, flat screen in the living area, in the sleeping area and another I'm a separate sitting area. Bathroom was nice. I enjoyed it! Room was freshened up daily. There was noise from the street but you are in New Orleans, you're not there for the quiet! I would recommend this place. Once renovations are complete it is going to be awesome! Pool and hot tub were clean and in use.

Charming hotel in ideal Location

We booked the Lamothe House based on reviews here and it being only one of three places with rooms available in our budget range near the French Quarter. Glad we did! The Lamothe House is just a block away from French Street, which is, as the proprieter put it, "Burbon street for locals". It's where the party at, not the crazy drunk tourist vomiting up oysters and daquiris outside the strip club party of Burbon Street, but the live music, bar-hopping, street fair, authentic party of French Street. And despite the proximity to fun, our unit was pretty quiet. The "Deluxe King Room" we booked was not available when we showed up (presumably because the whole place was undergoing major renovations when we were there), but they put us in a double queen room in the back apartment unit which was newly redone with brand new furniture (and paint, so it smelled a bit). It didn't have quite the antique charm of the pictures of the hotel, but the rooms were elegantly decorated with very high ceilings and very comfortable beds. The pool (with jacuzzi) is beautiful in an interior garden courtyard of the main building. The main building is original French Quarter, very beautiful. All in all it's a beautiful and charming place in the ideal location.

Pleasant Access to French Quarter

The staff was very helpful at all times. The parking was safe; not totally secure, but available. The room was nice enough; dated bathroom and window air conditioning unit made it hard to control temperature. Furtherest border of French Quarter so you'd want to know you way around. Good value for the price.

Great Hotel with Charm

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel exudes charm and character. This is not a five-star modern resort, but we knew that going into it. We wanted to experience a bit of "Old New Orleans" and this hotel provided just that.
