A Great Overnight!

It was just a short stay, but one that was so delightful, I'd return to this hotel again for a longer stay. The hotel is a lovely boutique-style hotel situated in the heart of the French Quarter in the less congested Chartre Street. With Jackson Square only a block or so away in one direction, Bourbon Street in the other direction and world-class art galleries in yet another direction, the hotels most extraordinary feature is its location! That said, the hotel itself has its own charms that's appealing to those who seek more classically historic hotel experiences. Constructed as a hotel in the early 1800's (I asked), the Ste Helene imbues with old world charm. Enclosed court yard with a running fountain and seating area, shuttered-esk windows overlooking the interior exposed- brick common areas, ceiling fans and wide-planked dark stained hardwood floors in the rooms, all invite a more relaxed hotel experience and one where you can, if you choose, escape to after spending a day in city. NOTE: all the rooms have AC / Heat. The room I had was lovely yet a bit small probably for some, especially the bathroom perfect for one person. The staff was pleasant and very helpful as well. Although the hotel does not provide for parking, it is next door to Premium Parking which provides both outdoor and indoor accommodations that are very reasonable as well as convenient. The downside is that the hotel does not have elevators. I do not recommend this hotel for those with physical disabilities or seniors (unless staying on the first floor). But for those younger or those who prefer taking the stairs at work, give this hotel a try.

Friends celebrate

I pick a new hotel/location each time I come to New Orleans. I picked this hotel as it was very centrally located. That turned out perfect. It was nice to have coffee and fruit available each morning in the lobby/kitchen. I knew it would be noisy on the front FQ balcony, and it was! Brought my earplugs and that helped. The balcony was so awesome though, so it was worth the wake up call from the noise.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

You must get a cocktail at Napoleon House and then dinner (at the bar...more fun!) at Nola's. Both are on the same/cross street of the hotel. If I had to stay on that corner at these two places the whole trip, I could!

Room given away due to IT issues

Arrived at the St Helene drop dead exhausted and so ready to get to my room and just lay down. The front desk guy Timothy (who was a complete pleasure and never lost his composure) for some reason, prior to even checking me in, took my bag to my room.... he came back and informed me that someone else was IN my room.... granted he did not come back with my bag so, I have no clue where it was left or why. I spent the next 45 minutes standing there while he tried to figure out what happened and finally called their sister property which was 7 blocks away to see if they had a room. They did (and he upgraded to me to a double balcony room which I appreciated). He also called me a cab (which he paid for). I had already paid $36 dollars to park my car at the St Helene and the sister property said they had no parking so, I had to leave my car there causing me to have to walk the 7 blocks the next morning to retrieve my car. Since I had no room at the St Helene due to their IT issues, I cannot review the rooms but I can say that the front desk guy Timothy was a pleasure. He was very sweet and never once stopped smiling..... still have no clue what the deal with my bag was though!

French Quarter Gem

Our experience at this hotel was smooth and problem free. The ambiance while entering the hotel was warm and welcoming. Our hotel room was on the first floor and it was amazing. Every morning we would look to our left and see a beautiful courtyard with an amazing pool. The bed was comfortable and the room was very nice. The only downside is that they have a t.v. that doesn't work; it is just a wall prop.

Clean, modern and classic in the heart of French Quarter

This was an excellent location, the price was right and I was recommend. Rooms are small but they are for sleeping and resting when on vacation not living. Highly recommend this hotel. The Camelia Coffee Shoppe is down the street which is super convenient for a cheap meal anytime given with diner and southern flair. Love.
