Great Hotel, Some issues

I have stayed here a couple times mainly because I like the location. The room was fine but it was a long walk up and down stairs when you have luggage. The room smelled like bad cooking grease constantly. That was due to a restaurant below. The last night there we had monsoon rains and many of the rooms had water seeping in from windows. The staff did what they could to accommodate everyone. My biggest issue is the price you have to pay for hotels in the French Quarter. You have no choice but to pay the prices if you want to stay there. Parking at $30 a day is also ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, the hotel was great and I would stay there again. I just with I could find some great deals with free parking.

Great Vacation

My husband and I visited New Orlean's during my spring break from work which was the first week in April. The weather was fair but the hotel stay was great. The location was great in the middle of everything and walking distant to all the events and happening spots. We took the VIP tour which add to our great experience. The tour guide was a wealth of information and the staff at the hotel were so very hospitable. I would definately return and stay at the same hotel and I would recommend family and friends. I could go on and on about the stay, the cleanliness, the hospiatlity, the French quarter, and so forth but my suggestion would be to plan your next vacation to visit the french quarters adnd stay at Hotel Royal!

Ideal location

Over all, our stay at the Hotel Royal was a pleasant one and we will return again. PROS: Excellent location. Able to walk to everything. Room clean and comfortable. Had 2nd floor courtyard room, which we enjoyed. Bed very comfortable. Staff helpful. Eric is a gem!! CONS: No refrigerator! $150 security deposit. $10.95 per night ammenities fee is outrageous. We were charged for things we didn't even use (Wi-fi, phone, etc.) Fee was also supposed to include "welcome ammenities". All we received was a map.

Comfort

Reservation wasn't available, at check-in, room requested and reserved, wasn't available, and staff didn't try to accommodate. Room temperature controls, were inoperable. Just a bad overall experience. Staff may not attempt to accommodate.

I'd stay here again

I upgraded to a King balcony room and it was TOTALLY worth it! Friendly staff and Brian went out of his way to help me upgrade even though he was busy with phones and other guests. The location was great and we walked everywhere. Parking will be an issue during weekends (and street cleaning) but the NO options for transportation in and out of the city easily solve that problem.

New Orleans is a fantastic adult getaway

The Royal Hotel is quaint, pleasant, clean, quiet. We chose it well; we were within walking distance to everything in the Quarter, This hotel, like so many in this area, is a converted home SO if you have health issues that prevent you from climbing stairs, this is not a good choice for you. No elevator but kind bellman. Also, limited space in the room - no dresser so lived out of the suitcase. No coffee maker but a really nice coffee shop across the street. Personnel are kind, knowledgeable and helpful. No parking available - don't rent a car.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Unless you plan to travel WAY outside the area of the immediate attractions of the French Quarter or waterfront do NOT rent a car. NOLA is a very foot friendly City and renting a car was the worst and most costly mistake we made. We literally parked the car in a lot for three days @ $18 a day and never used it. Even for tours, there is applicable transportation.
