Average place

While the hotel has an awesome location it leaves quite a bit to be desired. It was outdated but did the trick for a nice trip to Chicago.

Price high for value and service received

The building is very old - the halls are not air conditioned and there is a note on the elevator doors requesting that not more than 7 people occupy it at one time. When I checked out the front desk staff asked if I needed a taxi. I said I did and a man sitting in the lobby got up and showed me to a very nice van parked in front of the hotel. Foolish me, I assumed I was getting a complimentary ride to my destination. There were no markings on the van to indicate it was a taxi or owned by Travelodge but the staff member called the driver by name and the driver was in a uniform. After driving for a few minutes I was informed what the price of the ride would be. It was $2 more than what I paid to get to the Travelodge. Held captive-not pleased. My room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Had to cut my shower short because the tub was not draining. The tub was still full of water in the morning.Since there was an ice bucket in my room I jumped to the conclusion that there was an ice machine near by. Walked the entire floor, couldn't locate an ice machine. Called the front desk, was told it was near the elevators. Not on my floor. When I inquired about a place to get something to eat I was referred to a restaurant next door - period. The suggested restaurant was rather expensive so I walked a little further and found several other dining options. Would not stay there again.

Outdated and small

Good location, friendly staff (esp the maintenance guy who took me up and down in the vintage service elevator). Outdated decor, tiny rooms, the curtain didn't cover the window and I had to close the bathroom door to use the toilet. Not sure I would stay here again.

Beyond Bland

The rooms & beds are smaller than the average hotel. The bathroom layout makes you step into the bathtub to be able to shut the door. You are paying for location only. Parking is directly across the street & only $40 if validated by the hotel. If you are on a tight budget, or staying alone, this is not terrible. But not sure its worth saving a few extra dollar to have zero extras. (Example - hotel lobby bathrooms locked - If you pack-up for the 11am check-out and leave your car til the 2pm deadline - you are no longer a "guest of the hotel" and can't get a key to access facilities for a last minute pitstop.)

Make use of the rental bikes!! A long walk or short cab ride becomes a fun way to see the city or stop for a quick pic without any traffic delays or tired feet!!

Good deal for the price

We were just looking for a place to stay for the Chicago Rock n Roll Half Marathon, without breaking the bank. The hotel was in a good location and we didn't need a car. We were able to take the train from the airport to the loop. The air conditioner didn't seem to work properly and the room was warm, which made it difficult to sleep. Rooms are small and it's an older hotel. Staff was pleasant and helpful. For the price it was a good deal.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Most attractions were within walking distance. I'm a walker, so walking a mile is no problem. The bus and train stops are close by too. Wouldn't bother with a car, because you have to pay for parking.

Worst hotel in my life

Be aware !!! Most of good reviews are written by themselves. Here was worst hotel in my life, even motels are better than here. Front staff were really rude. There were less than half amenities as described. Had to wait at least 5 minutes to use an elevator, because the housekeepers and staff are using them even though there is staff elevator. Can't use self laundry because they're using laundry room as luggage room. I really don't recommend to stay here. Staff are really rude, less motivated and uneducated.

Great location

Slow elevator and small bathroom. But the bell staff are very helpful and nice. And the location is key. A short walk to Grant Park and a little longer one to Millennium Park. A couple of blocks to the Red Line and plenty of buses out on Michigan Avenue. Park at the northeast corner of Wabash and Harrison ($25 a day), instead of across the street from the hotel ($39 a day). Spend your time exploring the city and come back to the hotel to sleep.

location, location, location

This is obviously an old hotel, but not a bad place to stay. The bathroom was very small, especially by today's standards, with no place to put clothes or shower supplies. The TV faced one bed, but didn't have a good angle from the other. Fortunately, we didn't want to watch TV. It was clean and well kept, with friendly staff and great care. One of the 3 elevators was the old fashioned kind that needed an operator, but there was usually someone there willing to serve in that role. The biggest negative I would say is that the "parking available" is misleading. Be sure to figure another $39 per day for parking. But the location, in my opinion, makes it worth it. It would just have been easier to swallow if I had chosen it instead of feeling tricked. That said, I'd happily choose it again. Could someone please tell me, though, what good is a safe with the method and combination for lock and unlock printed on the top? 4th of July activities were plentiful and Michigan Ave parks were busy in the evening. Love the sidewalk dining and the nearby late night Dunkin Donuts and Subway, as well as the other restaurants around. Navy Pier is always a favorite place, but there's a lot of construction so allow extra time. Suessical is wonderful!!! The tallship was awesome! Beautiful weather. Wish the timing would have allowed for the Madagascar 3d Imax. Transformers isn't my thing. Love the Mexican Cantina. Getting far enough to get a cab after the activities was a problem since one of us has back and knee problems and can't walk very far. Maybe there would have been a way to order something in advance. That could be a future deal-breaker (or deal-maker). Any takers?

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Fabulous casual dining is available, with outdoor seating, too, if you can walk between 1/2 and 1 mile (and back). Quick and easy close places are good for late night and early morning, but it's worth the walk to Michigan Ave for more grown-up fare. If you go to Cosi, try the s'mores. They're wonderful! Your own little fire pot with marshmallows to roast, graham crackers and Hershey's bar to put it all together. Be prepared to be sticky.

Not Great!

The picture is deceiving! This hotel is very old; the room was tiny; the hallway and elevator was scary! The only redeeming qualities of this experience was that the staff at the front desk was wonderful, and the location is right downtown Chicago.
