The independently-owned Whitehall Hotel is Chicago's answer to the quirky boutique hotel, with a prestigious list of past guests that includes Katharine Hepburn and Mick Jagger. The Whitehall has been around since the 1920s, and maintains a combination of European-inspired charm and warm Midwestern hospitality, from the plush upholstered lounge-seating to the dark wood paneling and sparkling chandeliers. Feast on steamed dumplings and other Asian bites at Mei's Corner, or drink in the same seats that the Beatles once graced in the Whitehall Lounge. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel (fees may apply) brings you back into the 21st century, though personal services like the overnight shoeshine retain that vintage feel.

Holiday vacation

We had a great time at The Whitehall Hotel. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The king sized bed in our room was the most comfortable bed and pillows I have ever slept on!

Family getaway(parents & 20-somethin' daughters)

2nd time patron but this time included our 20-ish age daughters to experience Chicago. Great location; excellent access to Michigan Ave & Lake Shore. Close to info center & Hancock trolley stop. Hotel older but well maintained. Wifi charges too high but nearby Starbucks was helpful. Had 2 rooms, 1 with fridge. Beds were comfortable. Fitness center was adequate & clean. Complimentary coffee a plus. Enjoyed Trolley Tour, Aviary Lounge, Shaw's Crab House, LM Bistro, 2nd City Comedy, Portillo's, walk along lake, Navy Pier, Stained Glass museum & the Bean. Will return in warm weather to enjoy architectural river cruise & biking. Wonderful long wknd.

Good surprise!!

Pleasant surprise. Excellent location. Were in the city for a seminar at Four seasons and it was across the st. No need to choose an expensive hotel if you can stay at the Whitehall.

don't keep word

Was there October 22 to 24. Was woken up each morning by drilling on the hotel outside. Small room, paid big price for. When checking out, we were told we would get refund on breakfast charged to room. This never happened. The Manager even called us and say this would be done plus because of the noise, he would try to get one night paid for - didn't happen. Would not stay here ever again

Our week at the Whitehall

We were stuck in a hotel for a week while our mortgage bank dragged through the closing process. We spent a very relaxing, comfortable week, in the heart of the Gold Coast. An otherwise stressful situation was turned positive by the staff and the amazingly comfortable beds. Thank you when it was much needed!

Great Hotel

This was a wonderful hotel for the most part. The only problem I experienced is that the WIFI connection was spotty at best. Very difficult at times to get a good connection. It was not worth the $9.95 per day. Otherwise, my stay was fantastic!

Touristy weekeend getaway

The hotel was very clean and comfortable, however my one big complaint was that there was no WI-FI!!! In this day and age I expect pretty much every hotel to come with free WI-FI, but they wanted to charge $9.95 for it. A huge turn off. But the big plus was the location, it was in the heart of the city, close to a lot of sites and famous restaurants.

Great choice

This is a very well located hotel that is amazing value. I was very pleased with the beautiful room, nice bathroom and comfortable beds. The staff was professional. The elevators were very efficient. The casual Asian restaurant in the hotel was tasty. Only objection is no free wi if but for the price you really can't complain. There is internet access in the lobby but not conducive for conducting business. All in all I recommend this hotel highly.

Not too bad.

The stay was nice. The staff was perfect. I do wish they had better access to electrical outlets in the room. Paid for wifi for 24 hours and did not get full 24 hours. Location really was nice.

Go to the bar at the top of the John Hancock. Great view -- without having to pay for observatory. Drinks were expensive, but the view made it well worth it.
