Gold Coast boutique meets 1920s charm
The Whitehall Hotel manages that rare combination of location and ambiance. The hotel is situated one block from the Magnificent Mile and Rush Street nightlife district, but tucked away from the tourist fray on a residential street. One of Chicago's oldest luxury hotels but certainly no slouch, the Whitehall brims with 19th century elegance -- imagine chandeliers, wood paneling and tufted leather chairs, all restored to match the original European grace and grandeur of this Gold Coast gem.

Great Location
Steps from Mag Mile, very easy to get around by bus or subway. Great staff, beds really good. Hotel a little dated but very clean. No free internet. Would stay there again.

Old and smelly
The hallways were smelly...that kind of smell they use in nursing homes to cover up the old people smell. The room was damages (parts were hanging off of the closet doors) the shower barely drained and the faucets were hooked up backwards. The tv was from 1982, and there were no ice machines/beverage machines on our floor. The staff, however, was quite friendly. All in all, I would have chosen a different hotel. 4 star? Not so much.

I think it is over priced but I guess you pay for the location. Staff friendly and accomodating. Never did get the phone to work in room to call desk. Needs updating. ie: televisions, furniture, etc.

Budget Hotel at Average Price
Pros: Excellent location for sight-seeing activities. Helpful staff (concierege, door butlers, valets etc.) which almost balances out the Shocking Cons: No continental breakfast, no free wifi.

Lost our stuff in the hotel room
On our last night., we left to go clubbing ang left our spare wallets and iphone4 since we know housekeeping is gone for the day.. The next day, When we were getting ready to pack we learned that those are missing.. We search everywhere, even found a pair of socks under the bed that's not ours!.. They dont have a camera in the hallways as well as in the elevator.. And the max amout they will reimburse you is $75! They didnt try hard enough to find out who did it and just kept saying sorry... Very disapponting!

good value in prime location.
comfortable, classic continental hotel. good restaurant and cosy lounge. room was noisy from street construction, but the location for Michigan ave shopping and restaurant variety, can't be beat. Staff was very helpful but housekeeping could have been a bit better.
