Extended weekend getaway
I chose the Swissotel because of the location, but when we checked in, I was told I had to pay extra for a room with a view of either Grant Park or the Navy Pier. Also, the hotel charges you $$ for moving the items in the mini-fridge enven if you do not use those items.

Chicago Shenanigans
Didn't really stay at the hotel but we were not impressed with the restaurant choices the hotel offered and the parking rate was $52 for in/out privileges per day. There are other lots that do offer overnight parking for $26 - $30 within a short walking distance to the hotel. Staff was helpful and elevators seem to be slower than normal for a hotel that size. The hotel does have a complete fitness and pool area. No complaints there.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Every imaginable clothing retailer within 1 mile along the Michigan Ave corridor. Plenty of restaurants and bars too. No one can complain there is nothing to do in the immediate area. Besdies Grant/Millenium Park, all the major museums and theatre district are within walking distance to this hotel.

Chicago Weekend
I called the day before check in to confirm my reservation. The hotel told me they had my reservation but that it was not for 2 beds. We had 4 people so this was not going to work. They told me they were all sold out of double rooms and they couldn't help me. I then called Orbitz, as we booked with them, and the worker from Orbitz called the hotel and was able to get us the double room that we requested. Once we got there, they were very friendly and accomodating. The hotel itself was beautiful. We had a great view of Navy Pier and the lake. The beds are GREAT!!! The only thing we didn't like was that there appeared to only be a couple of the elevators working and there was always a long line and wait to get on the elevator. Luckily we were staying on the 3rd floor so it was not an issue for us to take the stairs. I would stay there again.

Short walk from the train
The staff was helpful with decisions on where to go and eat. It was nice having a cup of ice water or coffee upon entering. They couldn't find our reservations at first but were attentive and worked it out. The beds and bedding were great! Rooms were clean with soft fluffy towels. We had a view of the river out our window and it was a short walk to the lake and other attractions.

Beautiful hotel with pricey hidden costs
This is a beautiful hotel in Chicago near Navy Pier. We had a party of five and a baby with us, so we upgraded from two regular rooms to a corner suite with an adjoining room for a moderate increase in costs/night. The rooms were immaculate and the suite was HUGE, with beautiful views of the city, the lake, and navy pier. The staff was very friendly and accommadating. We got an amazing deal through Orbitz. However, that's where the amazing deal stopped. Everything costs extra at exorbitant prices. It costs $14/night to have access to the pool. A meal in the restaurant will cost about $40-$50/person. Room service? Take out a second mortgage. Parking was $52 a day. Internet was $10 a day and was not wireless. There was not much within walking distance, the navy pier was a good 20 minute walk. So overall, a beautiful room but very disappointing.

Excellent choice: upscale & good value
Swissotel in Chicago was perfect for our five-day stay. The location, right on the Chicago River, was a very short walk to Michigan Avenue and only about a block from the RiverWalk dock where the Chicago Architectural Foundation tour boat is located. The river tour is exceptional -- the view of Chicago's architectural gems was unbeatable. The concierge was helpful; The Palm was excellent; the room was spacious, well designed and clean. I have stayed in other Swissotels -- NYC and London -- and this one measures up well. I would definitely go back.
