Roaring 1920s meets the rockin' present
Towering 40 floors above the Magnificent Mile, the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago was an institution long before celebrity guests like Dave Navarro passed through its black polished granite and terra cotta walls. The Carbide & Carbon Building earned landmark status in 1996 for its designóa champagne bottle with gold-foil top bubbling over the Windy City. Today, the property takes on rocker appeal and remains a popular place to stay. Room walls are covered with rock-n-roll memorabilia and hip room decor to keep the party going all night long.
Highlights
  • On the Magnificent Mile, near Millennium Park and Grant Park
  • China Grill Restaurant
  • 10 free iTunes downloads
  • Gibson Guitar rentals
  • Staffed business center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Rooms
Rooms and suites at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago merge the subtle with the bold, like taupe walls accented by Tigerwood furniture and white linens dressed with colorful pillows. 2nd time stay

Compared to our last stay, when we were upgraded to the Tower Rooms (phenomenal 3 direction views of Michigan Ave, the Lake and Millenium Park, even from the bathroom), this room was just ok. Above average and trendy with one set of windows, but a lot of wasted space (a big dark hallway is included in the sq footage). Overall, since my first stay was 5 star, this room was "meh" for a higher price this time. Staff are A+ and the location was great for us.

Good location, good drinks, long wait

The location of the Hard Rock Hotel is excellent! The drinks at Angels and Kings were delicious and reasonably priced. The only downside to the Hard Rock Chicago is that I had to wait 30 minutes to retrieve my luggage. There was no one at the concierge to help us. Other than that it was a great stay!

Costly, but great location!

Being in the middle of downtown Chicago is fantastic, but common amenities such as wi-fi, breakfast, parking, etc., were all very expensive when they're usually free. The experience makes it worth the money!

great break from work and the family

I needed to recharge my mind, body, and soul and found myself on [...] to find a reasonably priced hotel in Chicago to "escape" to for an evening. I chose the Hard Rock Hotel because the rooms looked swanky and the beds looks comfy. Upon check in, they were happy to change my room from a king bed to 2 queens, no problem. I had no plans but to rest and relax within the 4 walls of my room with a good friend. There was a big picture of Bob Dylan in the room that I covered with a towel because his expression was a bit creepy... and they only had 1 pod of coffee (1 decaf, and 1 tea) next to their Kurig machine (which I was excited to see when I walked in) - it would have been nice to have more than one cup of coffee, or for each of us to have at least 1 cup. Overall, I loved the "rock" feel of the hotel and the simple layout when you walk into the door.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

When checking out and you see a long line at the front desk, go to the concierge across the lobby and give them your keys and room number, they will check you out. Fast, no wait.

Travel Like a Rock Star

Loved it! This was my second stay at Hard Rock Hotel Chicago. I am a local who decided to spend a weekend in the city for a little birthday "stay-cation." As a twenty-something on a budget, I loved all the little free perks that make you feel like a rock star. I enjoyed playing pool in the lobby with friends, the iPod docks in the rooms, and . . . the amazing Check In, Rock Out program. As a music enthusiast, I loved the opportunity to have a $4000 guitar waiting in my room for me to play. It is a great -- and free -- perk for all guests. In addition, the staff is youthful and friendly, and the bar makes a great mojito! I highly recommend Hard Rock Hotel Chicago.

Disappointment at Hard Rock

Compared to my other hotel experiences this year (in Michigan City and St.Louis) the Hard Rock stands out as having the most additional and hidden fees. The Hard Rock charges a ridiculous amount for things like parking ($46 A NIGHT) and $14 for internet and the list goes on. Really? In this day and age? $14 for internet? Also the TV in the room did not like to turn channels easily and two of the light bulbs were broke. I recommend any of the many other hotels in the area instead.
