Roaring 1920s meets the rockin' present
Towering 40 floors above the Magnificent Mile, the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago was an institution long before celebrity guests like Dave Navarro passed through its black polished granite and terra cotta walls. Today, the property takes on rocker appeal and remains a popular place to stay. Room walls are covered with rock-n-roll memorabilia and hip room decor to keep the party going all night long.Highlights

Not bad, but not great
We visited Chicago for an extended weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We decided on the Hard Rock hotel based on price, location, and it looked like a comfortable room. When we checked in, we noticed that the hotel was fairly dimly lit throughout, just like the other reviewers said. It was mildly inconvenient, but not necessarily a deal breaker. When we got to our room, I was actually surprised how small the room felt. It had all the furniture we needed (king size bed, large LCD TV, small desk, sitting chair), but it just felt cramped. Maybe it was because I just stayed at the Fairmont Chicago for work. Regardless, we made it work for the duration of our trip. One thing that bugged me was that there were only two small drawers to put our clothes. We ended up just leaving everything in our suitcases because of that. I also noticed that some parts of the hotel felt old and worn, like the carpet and sections of the wall. The other thing I wasn't fond of was the shower because it didn't have a door, just an opening with a glass partition to make sure water didn't spray everywhere. I understand that makes it "chic," but it really wasn't that functional. After showering, the floor was always wet. What I did like about the hotel was the location. We bought 7-day unlimited CTA passes and those were awesome. From the hotel, we could walk to several CTA lines and get to just about anywhere in the city. We went as far north as Wrigleyville and as far south as Soldier Field. The location was also perfect to quickly get to the Magnificent Mile. Also, the bed was pretty comfortable. We spent a lot of time walking, so it was nice to relax on the bed at the end of the day. For the price, it's hard to beat this hotel, but I'm not dying to stay here again. I would recommend this hotel only if you can't get a better deal at some of the other high end hotels in the area.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you stay here (or anywhere in the downtown area), get yourself a CTA pass and avoid the stress of driving and finding parking. Hotel parking is outrageously priced everywhere. The train and bus system work really well in Chicago.

Great location for the price!
Made these reservations in February and asked for a room looking north on Michigan Ave. so we could see the parade. They gave us a great room on the 12th floor. The staff was awesome. Very friendly. And I have to say one of the cleanest bathrooms that i have ever seen in a hotel and I am pretty picky!

NNot bad
Rooms were good, hallways and doors seemed a little old. It was OK for the 3 hours I got to be in the bed before leaving for airport. Mortan's being next door was great.

Great Location for the price.
We went to Chicago to celebrate a birthday and took in a play at the Cadillac Palace. It was walking distance from the hotel. The location was perfect. It was close to great restaurants, shopping, and attractions. The hotel was well kept and the people who worked there were very pleasant and helpful.

Great deal!
I stayed at the Hard Rock because that was the location of the Seminar I was attending. I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the room and loved the bathroom. The bed was a little too hard for me. The room was also right above a busy street with lots of trucks, cars and sirens all night long and my window was stuck open a crack so I couldn't shut out the noise. Next time I would make sure I requested a room away from the traffic. Otherwise it was great.
