Roaring 1920s meets the rockin' present
Towering 40 floors above the Magnificent Mile, the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago was an institution long before celebrity guests like Dave Navarro passed through its black polished granite and terra cotta walls. The Carbide & Carbon Building earned landmark status in 1996 for its designóa champagne bottle with gold-foil top bubbling over the Windy City. Today, the property takes on rocker appeal and remains a popular place to stay. Room walls are covered with rock-n-roll memorabilia and hip room decor to keep the party going all night long.Highlights

Quick trip turned bad
There is a bar/restaurant connected to the hotel which is accessable through the lobby. Saturday evening we returned to our hotel after being downtown all day to find a private event had closed off the restaurant as well as the hotel LOBBY?? I had to fight with our doorman to let us in the hotel so we could access our room. I let the manager on duty know and they could have cared less. The hotel swapped out quality of quantity to make a quick buck on some private party for some no-name local act. Will not be returning to this hotel

Mediocre
The hotel was situated in a good location. The staff were friendly and helpful. However, they didn't have a fitted sheet on the bed and the sheets were not washed well. The lighting in the bathroom could have been brighter and the cleanliness could have been better overall. That noted, the location was good and the room was quaint. The room I stayed in is a great size for one person but a little cramped for two.

Cool room, that's about it.
The staff was about as unconcerned as any that I've seen. The room has a great vibe, but lacks any amenities. The coffee maker worked poorly, no room in the fridge for anything due to vendable items, not one water bottle, nor snack, nor can of beer could you get in there. The bar seats about twenty five, and never had more than 15. The outdoor seating closes around 10:30. Great location, though. It's cheap because that's what it's worth. A nice bed downtown.

Hard Rock
The hotel was in a great location on N. MIchigan ave close to food and shopping. The room was very comfortable and clean. The only issue with our room was that it only had half a shower door by design and water leaked into the bathroom and the carpet. Otherwise the room was great. There's no pool, but would stay again.

Costly, but great location!
Being in the middle of downtown Chicago is fantastic, but common amenities such as wi-fi, breakfast, parking, etc., were all very expensive when they're usually free. The experience makes it worth the money!

Once in a Lifetime trip to the Taste of Chicago
Limited amenities - no bathtub, no swimming pool, no hot hub. Parking was $50! View from hotel room left much to be desired, but we were able to see the lake from our room. Learned the hard way that the refrigerators were weighted - took out the mini-bar items to put our pizza in there for overnight, and got charged for the minibar items (2 bottles of water; 2 cans of Red Bull, and 4 bottles of cheap beer) - charged $98! Hotel took the charges off after we disputed the charges - but still! Thought breakfast was complimentary - as advertised - but because we book via Orbiz, discovered breakfast was not included. Very dark decor (walls were painted dark purple or black). Difficult to see in hallways of hotel. Minimal lighting. In the center of downtown Chicago - so that was a plus. Right across from the Navy Pier and the Taste of Chicago. Walking distance from all the museums. Great location - limited amenities - expensive parking!
