The belle of Chicago's theater district
When Broadway shows comes to town, the Hotel Allegro Chicago, a Kimpton Hotel, is the first place that comes to mind for lodging. The Cadillac Palace Theater sparkles as brilliantly as its marquee with tasteful rooms in the heart of the Loop. Theatrical drama comes to life in every corner, including the lobby’s three-story staircase where a baby grand piano sits against a bright palette of reds, oranges and greens. Business travelers find its location equally attractive -- it’s just a few blocks from the Board of Trade and Mercantile Exchange.

  • Broadway shows on site at the Cadillac Palace Theater
  • Evening wine hours hosted in hotel’s living room

Not recommended

A tired hotel, barley inside the "Loop". A 90 years old building (hotel?) with a lousy attempt of an out of date not recent modern renovation. Small rooms with very small bathrooms. Standard amenities such as coffee maker, shower cap.. are not provided in the room, you have to call the front desk to supply! Expensive parking off the premises ($51 per night). Except for the nice spacious lobby, this hotel should not be rates 4 Stars.

Great Location

Nice funky, modern decor, accomodating staff, wine tasting in the early evenings a nice touch. Great location in the theatre district, close to lots of dining options. Only minus was incredibly small bathroom.

Weekend getaway

My husband and I went downtown for a anniversary/birthday getaway. The lobby of the Alegro is gorgeous. The rooms are nice, but very small. There is really no closet to speak of and the bathroom was teeny and there was not much of a view. But for the price, it was fine. The lobby is gorgeous and the front desk staff was excellent. They do allow dogs and while this might be nice for pet owners, the constant barking of one of the guests forced us to ask for a room change. The gentleman at the front desk was marvelous about immediately changing our rooms. The only snafu was the loss of a phone charger in this move. We contacted the front desk almost immediately, but the charger could not be found. They offer a wine happy hour in the lobby which we didn't attend, but did walk through and it seemed very nice. They offer coffee and tea in the morning as well. All and all, a good stay and would return.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel is located in the Loop and while this is a bit of a draw back at night as most restaurants and bars close on the weekends, during the day it is a perfect location to get to the museums and Millennium Park. It is also right in the middle of the Theater District if you are coming down for a show, it is perfect. And if the weather is nice, it's a nice walk across the River to the bars and restaurants in River North. Also a nice walk to the Ogilvey Train Station and Union Station.

A good value--and really wired!

The hotel was updated since we last stayed there and was attractive and comfortable except for a couple of factors: 1) there were no robes as in other Kimpton hotels we've stayed in; 2) it was difficult to cool down the room temperature to a comfortable level; 3) there were no additional light blankets for the bed and the comforter was too warm for the room. The bathroom was small but nicely updated with an excellent shower. This hotel is in a good location for those attending theater functions. No coffee pots in the room was a negative from our perspective but a quality coffee shop was easily accessible from the ground floor without going outside. We would stay here again but would definitely request several things ahead of time.

very nice

Nice hotel and nice decor. I would have liked a chair other than the desk chair; one that I could sit in comfortably to read. I would have also liked an in room coffee maker. The shower temperature regulator worked the wrong way--you turned to cold to get hot water. Access to the theater and opera were good and that was the reason for the visit to Chicago.

Good but not great

Booked this hotel due to price, location, and mostly for its reputation as a pet friendly hotel. The hotel is very nice but the room was very small and the bathroom was almost impossibly small. Besides allowing pets to stay there, we didn't feel they offered any above and beyond let amenities. Overall good but not great stay.

Romantic Valentine's Getaway

The location of this hotel is excellent near great restaurants. From the valet experience to check-out the staff were welcoming and of great assistance. The decor is modern and fun. The beds super comfortable. The complementary wine hour was great. Overall, it was an excellent experience and will stay again.

Perfect for Opera

This is the third time I have stayed at the Allegro for a visit to the Opera. It is perfect. Just five blocks away from the Lyric Opera. The staff are great, directions, things to do, and a safety pin for a button on my coat. The 312 restaurant has reasonably good food, and an excellent staff.

Great place, very reasonably priced

I love Chicago, and this was for the money the best place I have stayed. The staff was great, I went to Restaurant 312 and it was reasonably priced. Walking distance from most things and cab by others. Highly recommend it. Geo
