trip

We reached the hotel late by 24 hours, due to flight delay. They had cancelled our reservation, and we had some grief. however the staff was initially rude. later they re-instated the booking. 1 hour later, the same staff turned very polite, and were very courteous, and appologised for their behavior. the stay was very pleasant, their ocean view was really good, and thats the closest one could get to the ocean, as there is not much of beach area. we also visited Hilton as it has more restaurants, and things to do, however it is a 10 minute walk from sherraton, and experienced that not selecting Hilton was right choice, as it was packed with kids, noise, and tour buses running all over their huge place. we ended up having meals at Hilton, but would not recommend to stay at Hilton, bcoz of all the noise. Our stay was very peaceful, and would stay back at sheratton if we go to big island.

Hawaii Bound

The Marriott is very nice, the grounds are kept immaculate. The pools are beautiful. The rooms are a little small, however the beds are very comfortable and to me that's more important. The only drawback is that there are always business meetings and the business people pretty much take over the whole sitting area on the second floor, nobody wants to be reminded about work, while on vacation. The restaurant is delicious, their prices are about what you will pay just about at every restaurant in Hawaii. We had a fabulous time and would return to The Marriott.

Wintry Escape

The Marriott Waikoloa had beautiful grounds and we found the location great, away from the busy area of Kailua but close enough to drive to when desired. The hotel is in the Waikoloa beach area which is essentially an entire resort area with the Hilton nearby as well as numerous developments with timeshares, villas, etc. As a result, if you enjoy walking, there is ample sidewalks and paths to walk daily/ The rooms are on the small side but adequate and the hotel is very well maintained. The salt water hot tub was great and much appreciated after spending our days hiking and exploring. The layout of the hotel is a bit odd and we found ourselves walking around inside the hotel to access our room which was adjacent to a stairwell that didn't connect to our floor. One big drawback for us was the unexpected "resort fee" of $25.00 daily which we didn't see any real benefit for as all the activities have fees as well. It did cover the $18.00 a day parking fee and got us each one free cup of coffee, which was not great. Overall, it is a very nice property but as we tend to be active and there is so much to see and do on the Big Island that, unless you just want to relax and spend a lot of time on grounds, the expense of the hotel is not really worth it.
