Great place to relax with friends

From the moment we arrived we were greeted with friendliness. After I lost my wedding ring just outside the lagoon a staff member spent his time with mask and snorkel looking for it in the coral. Never found the ring but his efforts were priceless.

Loved it but north tower was a very far walk and we tired of waiting for the tram.

Not for everyone

We stayed in the Tower area near the adult pool. It was ok. Room was clean. Balcony looked out on the rest of hotel. For a trip to Hawaii I was hoping for a bit more. We looked at a partial ocean and full ocean view, and even the full ocean view still looked largely out over the rest of the property. There is a tram that has to take to you to your room from the lobby, which is very slowly and rarely available. You have to valet or the walk is that much further. If you want to stay at a resort where all you're doing is exploring the resort, this might be fun. If you want to come and go as you please, maybe get out and explore Hawaii, try the Mariott nearby.

Excellent value for hotel room, Unparalled beauty!

This is a fabulous hotel. Great hotel, I was in the Ocean Lagoon towers and had 'resort view' of golf course, but I could still see the ocean. Excellent beds/bathroom. Loved having the mini-fridge to store stuff. Little store in the tower has most of what you need, you can grab alcohol/milk/cookies/t-shirts. The store is expensive, but it's a resort, what do you expect? I found it very convenient. Easy to stop by, and grab some beers on the way to the pool. Staff was excellent, and laid back. Pools were unbeatable, and getting around the resort was easy with the tram. Expect to walk alot, but how else will you burn off all those Macademia Snow Balls you've eathen? I did take the offer up to goto a timeshare presentation, so I received a 100 in Hawaiian dollars...not sure it was worth that, 200.00 and it would be a deal... It is a high pressure presenatation...never believe a person when they tell you 'you should not feel any pressure' and then ask if you want to buy 10x in a row before they even show you a model of the condo.

long awaited vacation

This trip was our first resort experience. Our observation was that you never needed to leave the location unless you wanted to. Everything was right there! Being closer to the ice machine would have been nice, but all in all, it was fantastic. We loved the boat ride and the tram was very helpful. The staff was wonderful and so helpful to get us to what we wanted to see; ex. the sea turtles and the fish frienzy! Beautiful and exotic wildlife all around the resort was refreshing. Everyone was so friendly, had a nice smile and were so willing to help. We thought that the equipment to help disabled persons get into the many pools was very thoughtful. The art that was displayed was so beautiful and abundant. The entertainment was very spactacular. We ate at two local restaurants and the food was very good.....a little pricey for our tastes, but wonderful all the same. Our room location was ocean view and we slept so soundly listening to the waves. We would definately return if the opportunity ever presented itself. Thank you for the opportunity to express our satisfaction and comment on all the wonderful experiences we were able to enjoy while there.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Just outside the resort, at one of the shopping areas, there is a very nice store (ABC) where you can buy fresh fruit trays, hot dishes, and a varity of snacks and tasty sides and beverages. If you accumulate a certain amount of purchases, you receive a nice gift. Great place to purchase souveniors also.

Good place to stay

Pros: Beautiful complex Friendly staff Great pools Dolphins up close Great ocean view Convenient location on island Probably great for kids (pools, dolphins, water activities in lagoon) and not so great for couples Cons: Not a real ocean beach Too big (1200+ rooms?) Far walk from self-park Far walk (10-15 min) from Ocean Tower to main lobby Overly expensive food options Additional fees for parking Somewhat busy and active complex if you are seeking more relaxing accommodations (lots of kids and random private events going on)
