Plantation-style goes upscale on Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast
Set on 25 acres along a three-mile beach -- Kauai's longest -- this resort evokes the graciousness of the plantation era but with a host of contemporary amenities. The beach, which is perfect for sauntering or sunning, is not for swimming. No problem. Kauai Beach Resort has four pools, a beachfront sand-bottomed pool and a fantasy pool with a 75-foot lava-tube water slide among them. Two restaurants, a lounge, a fitness center and a spa round out the facilities. And when guests want to explore further afield, Kauai's east coast is an ideal spot from which to do it.
Highlights
  • Fantasy pool with 75-foot lava-tube water slide
  • Series of concerts and programs promoting Hawaiian arts and artists
  • Hawaiian Rainforest Spa
  • Complimentary bocce
  • Complimentary airport shuttle
Location
Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast is rife with sacred sites and groves of slender coconut palms, with its character shaped in part by long, curving Wailua River, the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. A stay here should include visits to a trio of sites, Fern Grotto, Secret Falls, and 80-foot Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening scene of TV classic "Fantasy Island."
Rooms
Accents such as louvered doors and wood floors recall plantation style, but the old plantation homes didn't have what these rooms at Kauai Beach Resort have: travertine marble in the bathrooms and iPod docks in the living rooms.
Features

There's a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Kauai Beach Resort with its island architecture, but also a culture of sharing and promoting authentic Hawaiiana that sets it apart. The resort hosts events all year, including local musicians who share their art and stories, benefit concerts supporting the perpetuation of Hawaiian language and music, and a festival featuring the state's top slack-key artists. Check the annual calendar and plan your trip accordingly.

Although the beach out front isn't safe for swimming, Lydgate Beach Park, a couple of miles away, offers excellent swimming and snorkeling.

Kauai Vacation

This was one of the most beautiful Hotels in Hawaii. The pool area and grounds very very well maintained and have such amazing waterfalls and flowers thru-out the hotel grounds. The rooms are very well maintained and provided a excellent ocean view from our lanai. The restaurants all served very good food and excellent service but were a a bit pricey..

Beautiful getaway

The hotel and staff were great, the only issue was that unless you bought all your food at the local grocery, the hotel food prices were huge.

First trip to Hawaii

Beautiful area! Downfall was you could walk on the beach but no water to swim in the ocean as it's on the east shore! But a grotto area with four pools one being sand bottom and two hot tubs more then covers it! Close to lots to do within 5 to ten minutes of travel. Recommend you get a car for ease!

Best Bang for your Buck

Great stay! Originally booked for a garden room, but front desk attendant upgraded us to ocean view at no additional cost! She was awesome (Mena)! She also helped discount parking for us. Natalie the concierge was very helpful for some last minute activities to do. We're in our mid twenties, and were easily the youngest at the resort, but understandable as most 20's go to Oahu to vacation. Hotel had great ambiance, nice restaurant, nice pool that was kid friendly, but nothing obnoxious. Pool was very close to beach as well if you wanted to take your pool chairs by the beach! Towel service was easy and towel attendant was friendly. Our room was great size for what we needed, included fridge and safe! Overall we had an amazing stay, and got WAY more for our money than we ever expected! Beautiful hotel, with BEAUTIFUL views and Exceptional customer service. NO COMPLAINTS! Would stay here again and would recommend it to friends!

Mean Front Desk

We chose this hotel for our honeymoon! Mena was the person who gave us a room! We told her that we just got married no reaction! No eye contact, no smile, NO was the answer to any request that we had! I was not happy that they charged us $16.00 per night for parking without mentioning it anywhere! The cleaning staff were the nicest on the other hand! They should put Mena in the cleaning and put them up front if they want the guests to have a more pleasant welcome! The room is in good location, the breakfast is good if you are a meat and egg lover but not for vegetarians/vegans. The location is good! The pool area is nice!

Nice Hotel, for athe drier seasons

This is a nice hotel, with plenty of swimming and hot tub space. The staff was friendly and helpful. They offer free concierges, though they always seem to be busy. The food is pretty good, but expensive. Parking is pretty expensive. The WiFi isn't free, but the charge for a week isn't so bad. The problem is the location or at least for the season. It rained there not all day, but every day of our stay February 5-11 and it was supposed to continue raining like that for the next week. So when it wasn't raining there, it was cloudy much of the time. Even when it rains, it is a warm rain, but if you're here for sun, you may be disappointed. I'd suggest that during the rainy season you stay somewhere in the desert South or perhaps just choose a little drier island.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

I'd suggest buying at least a box of cereal and some milk if you want to save little on food. There isn't room to store a jug of milk upright in the mini fridges they provide in the rooms, but it should be fine if you can find something with a tightly fitting lid. You could also keep yogurt and stuff for sandwiches there as well. The local Walmart is a good place to get these sorts of provisions.

Great for family

It is great for family but otherwise, it is mediocre. It is not near any mall or other amenities within walking distance. So if you do not drive, you are basically holed up in the hotel. Although the hotel has scheduled shuttle service to the Kukul Grove Shopping Mall. The hotel room is comfortable but it gets very damp and the pillows have a smell when the weather gets real humid (during rainy season).

Food can get really expensive so try to head to the Kukul Grove Mall to get lunch or dinner. The L&L Hawaiian BBQ Food has pretty decent food for less than $10.00. Try the Pork Lau Lau or Garlic Mahi Mahi. For souvenirs, head to Costco which is a short walking distance from the mall.
