Plantation-style goes upscale on Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast
Set on 25 acres along a three-mile beach -- Kauai's longest -- this resort evokes the graciousness of the plantation era but with a host of contemporary amenities. The beach, which is perfect for sauntering or sunning, is not for swimming. No problem. Kauai Beach Resort has four pools, a beachfront sand-bottomed pool and a fantasy pool with a 75-foot lava-tube water slide among them. Two restaurants, a lounge, a fitness center and a spa round out the facilities. And when guests want to explore further afield, Kauai's east coast is an ideal spot from which to do it.Highlights
- Fantasy pool with 75-foot lava-tube water slide
- Series of concerts and programs promoting Hawaiian arts and artists
- Hawaiian Rainforest Spa
- Complimentary bocce
- Complimentary airport shuttle
Location
Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast is rife with sacred sites and groves of slender coconut palms, with its character shaped in part by long, curving Wailua River, the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. A stay here should include visits to a trio of sites, Fern Grotto, Secret Falls, and 80-foot Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening scene of TV classic "Fantasy Island."Rooms
Accents such as louvered doors and wood floors recall plantation style, but the old plantation homes didn't have what these rooms at Kauai Beach Resort have: travertine marble in the bathrooms and iPod docks in the living rooms.Features
There's a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Kauai Beach Resort with its island architecture, but also a culture of sharing and promoting authentic Hawaiiana that sets it apart. The resort hosts events all year, including local musicians who share their art and stories, benefit concerts supporting the perpetuation of Hawaiian language and music, and a festival featuring the state's top slack-key artists. Check the annual calendar and plan your trip accordingly.
Although the beach out front isn't safe for swimming, Lydgate Beach Park, a couple of miles away, offers excellent swimming and snorkeling.

20 year anniversary trip
WE loved this hotel. It was in a nice location, right on the beach and mid-way between North and South side activities. They had live music many evenings and the pools were beautiful. It was perfect.

Nice break from the routine
We liked the proximity of the hotel to the airport and the complimentary shuttle. The kids loved the pools, especially the slide. Our room was clean and very comfortable. Nice breakfast buffet that didn't have the larger resort prices, a plus when traveling with 3 children. Would definitely stay here again!

Live Action
Scenic and Ideal location. Great Pool and Breakfast Buffet.
Location is ideal if you are planning to explore the whole island. It is in the middle of both North and South areas making arriving at any early morning activity a lot easier than staying at one end or another of the island. The rooms and lobby are plantation style and showing a little wear but overall not shabby and quite pleasant. The pool and outdoor bar area is fantastic. Not tons of kids so nice for adult getaways but family friendly at the same time. The beach is deserted and lovely for morning strolls. A really scenic and comfortable hotel for those that do not like mega, gated, resort style monoliths. The Breakfast buffet is delicious and well worth it.

Skip the hotel lack luster lunch and dinner fare and head out to the town of Niwilliwilli or Ka'Paa for local eats.

Great hotel
This was Avery nice hotel. The room was very clean and in good repair. I would have liked an updated TV. No flat screen. However, I found that other towels in Hawaii were also behind the times, TV wise. Also the hotel provided an in room wired Internet connection, but not wifi. Not good for tablet users. However, wifi was available in the lobby. All in all, I would stay here again. The breakfast was wonderful!

Great Pool, everything else average
The hotel is average for the area except for the pool and the buffet breakfast... they are above average. I think that pool area and restaurant are what give the hotel a 4 star rating because everything I would rate at 3 star. The parking is a little far, our room was not perfectly clean. the building is a little old, the in-room Internet is terribly slow, you have to pay for each batch of laundry, in-room movies are very expensive, no DVD or blue-ray player, no microwave. Overall, pretty average.

If you like barbecue food, try Scotty's in Kapaa, north part of town on the ocean side of the main highway. Awesome food... I recommend the pulled pork sandwich!

First Visit to Kauai
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinners were excellent quality, and we ate there everyday for seven days. Only one time were we disappointed with a pasta/penne dish. There were plenty of swimming pool areas with waterfalls. Even a pool with a sandy beach for the children. We will return to that resort/hotel in the future. Good value, priced right. Mrs, D
