Opulent Poipu resort is both playground and blissful retreat
Acres of saltwater lagoons and freshwater pools, grottos, waterfalls, and an extravagance of tropical blooms create a setting so lush it could be a movie backdrop for the ultimate island love story. Tranquil but playful -- who can resist a 150-foot water slide? -- the AAA Four Diamond Grand Hyatt Kauai inspires thoughts of paradise. For spa-lovers it may well be paradise since Anara Spa added its blissful garden sanctuary. Yet golfers, kayakers and tennis players will also find idyllic ways to while away the hours … or days.
Highlights
  • 45,000-square-foot Anara Spa
  • Camp Hyatt (ages 3-12), now partnered with National Geographic Kids
  • Adjacent Shipwreck Beach, where "Six Days Seven Nights" was filmed
Rooms
Decor at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is "Classic Hawaiian" with warm hues and rich woods. There are more than 600 rooms, each with lanai or balcony, but the resort doesn't feel crowded thanks to meandering paths and waterways that create a multitude of secluded, peaceful areas.
Features
It is hard to peg the resort as ideal for couples or families, lovers or adventurers, golfers or kayakers, because it is for all of the above. Romantics find hidden nooks among the gardens and lagoons and in the serene spa. Tranquil lagoons beckon to kayakers while golfers can take the challenge posed by Poipu Bay Golf Course, where distractions include whales breaching just offshore. Parents have bonding time with children during cultural and family activities, and adult time while kids play and learn in highly regarded Camp Hyatt. A twice-weekly luau and Polynesian revue is for everyone.
Dining
There are nearly a dozen restaurants, bars, and snack venues at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, including an espresso bar where caffeine junkies can jump-start the day at 5:30 a.m. Stevenson's Library channels the ambiance of a Victorian gentleman's club (ladies welcome), a cozy spot for late-night Cognac or Port. Reserve in advance to dine at Dondero's, the only AAA Four Diamond restaurant on Kauai.

Great Staff

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we were treated wonderfully. We were put in an absolutely beautiful room with probably the best view. Everyone accommodated us with whatever request we had. The staff was very friendly, and the grounds were clean and enjoyable. It definitely felt like a five-star hotel. I will definitely return.

Totally Awesome!

The Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kauai, Hawaii was THE best hotel that I have ever stayed in my life. The grounds were absolutely breath taking and bring you to paradise. The rooms here very comfortable and clean. The location was unbeatable. The pools were amazing and extensive, almost covering the whole hotel gronds. The drive from the Lihue Airport to the Grand Hyatt in south coast of Kauai was beautiful and relaxing. The 6 restaurants at the hotel had great food and provided many choices. The hotel and the services were a little pricey but worth every penny. The service provided by the staff was completely unbeatable and the best ever.

Honeymooners everywhere!

I have to say this was a beautiful hotel and it is HUGE. The grounds were perfectly maintained, the pools were amazing, and the staff was great. A few downsides - the beach is almost never swimmable, and they charge close to 15$ a day for internet access which for their rates and resort charge seems excessive. Tidepools restaurant was delicious dining over a koi pond and waterfall. There are seriously honeymooners everywhere in this place so I'd say it's better for a romantic getaway than for a family vacation. Oh and the Spa - spectacular! If you plan on going to Kauai to stick to your hotel and facilities I'd highly recommend it. But if you plan on seeing more of the island, hiking, going to other beaches etc, you might be able to get a better rate (if not as nice grounds and staff) elsewhere. Really a great stay overall from the Lei upon arrival right through the complimentary valet parking.

Paradise Found

The Grand Hyatt Kauai is one of my favorite places in the world. Everything about the resort -- the architecture, the layout, the amazing pool and lagoon area, even the design of the landscaping -- instills me with feelings of relaxation in a distinctively Hawaiian setting. There are excellent food options as well, and the spa is amazing, too, but of course all this doesn't come cheap. But if you're looking to splurge on yourself and take that idyllic Hawaiian vacation, this is the place.

If you want great snorkeling, head to Lawai Beach, in front of the Beach House restaurant. The beach is small, but the fish are plentiful and diverse...

Awesome Honeymoon!

The Grand Hyatt Kauai was amazing! From start to finish we couldn't have asked for more. Check in went smooth, even upgraded our room. The room was excellent, clean amazing amenities in the bathroom, private patio faced the beach. There are tons of dining options on site, the spa and fitness center were incredible, biggest gym I've seen for a resort. There are numerous pools, three spas spread out on the close to 60 acre resort with one acre of saltwater lagoon, both lagoon, pools and spa open 24 hours. The private beach was amazing tons of walking trails and lounge areas all throughout the resort. There are plenty of restaurant choices off the grounds.

Holiday Paradise

The Grand Hyatt Kauai is a 5-star resort in every way. We've stayed at many resorts around the world, and this ranks with the best. First, the location and grounds are extraordinary. With beautiful waterfalls, lush tropical plants, koi ponds and a lagoon for swimming, the natural beauty of this resort is outstanding. Second, the amenities are first rate, with good restaurants, shops, etc. Yes, everything is expensive but all of Hawaii is expensive and here you get something worthwhile for your money. The hotel is large with about 600 rooms, but even with many people (it was at 100% capacity in August) you didn't feel overwhelmed by the crowds. Just be sure to book your restaurant reservations as soon as you arrive, or you may not get a good time. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The Hyatt is in the south of the island, which gets more sun and less rain than the north. Its location is convenient for driving anywhere in a relatively short time so be sure to rent a car (also expensive but worth it). Drive to the Waimua Canyon (30 min)and to Hannelei(50 min). Of course, you must see the Na Poli coast either by air or sea...it's spectacular. We would recommend the Hyatt without reservation. The staff is friendly and helpful, obviously very well trained. In short, we spent 10 days there and wish we could come back every year.

There are two restaurants we recommend. The first is Roy's,a half mile from the Hyatt. The food and service are excellent but book early and be aware that parking is at a premium. The second is Bar-acuda in Hannelei. It's a tapas restaurant;the food is very good and you may see one or two celebrities who vacation in the area.

excellent resort

An initial problem with the room (difficult access for handicapped) was quickly and courteously corrected. Outstanding facilities and location, an extraordinary restaurant (Tidepools) and a capable and friendly staff. Defintely a five star hotel--in my opinion the best in the islands.

Truely a 5 Star Hotel

Probably the best hotel and Spa I ever stayed at. Beautiful grounds, fabulous pool. Restaurants were supurb. Great food, great service, ambiance and concept for all restaurants and bars exceptional. The spa had everything you could want. Spa was a little expensive but this was Kauai and a very special place. Room accomodations were very good but not exceptional which was fine as we did not spend that much time in the room. Service and staff were very friendly and competent. We were able to book reservations for activities and restaurants from the hotel. Shops had excellent quality but at the high end price wise. Common areas were gorgous. Breakfast buffet was outstanding. Beautifyl golf course.

You did not have leave the hotel for anything. However, there are other outstanding dining and shopping options within a 5 minute drive. PoiPu center has both shopping and dining. Roy's and Pucca Dog are a must. Best dinner was in the Beach House 5 minutes by car. Gerat place to watch the sun set.

Great Resort

The Grand Hyatt Kauai was a suberb luxury hotel. The pools and grounds were absolutely beautiful and very well-maintained. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly - we ate at the breakfast buffet at the hotel every morning which was delicious and the wait staff welcomed us by name every morning. The restaurants at the hotel, although very expensive (like every restaurant in Poipu), were outstanding. We will definitely return to this hotel when we plan our next visit to Kauai!
