Excellent stay!!!!! Service top notch!!!

This hotel is in a prime location near black rock. It has beautiful hotel grounds that are well kept up and clean. The beach in front of the hotel is great, soft sand and not very crowded like the other side of black rock. We received the best service the minute we entered the hotel. We received an upgrade to an ocean view room free of charge. It was so beautiful from our private balcony in the tower. Pools were warm and clean with plenty of beach chairs around the pool and in the lawn area ( not much shade though). Attended the luau at the hotel and was pleasantly surprised after reading such mixed reviews. We had the best experience ever in Maui and I would highly recommend this hotel for the amenities and stellar service they provide. I can't wait to go back and stay at the Royal Lahaina again! Mahalo!!

Royal Lahaina Resort , It doesnt get any better

From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a Aloha. The hotel was built in the 60s and the renovations were great. Still has the classic dark wood look. Check in was a breeze at noon went to our room on the 5th floor. We had a partial view of the ocean and golf course. We never went inside the cottage but the grounds surround them were spotless. The pools are fine and you are literally steps away from the Ocean. We went to the Luau and it was an excellent show. The food we well prepared and better then the Old Lahaina Luau. For amenities, I did not come to maui to sit in a gym or play on my IPAD. if this is what you want to do, then the Royal Lahaina is not for you. My idea is to see what this beautiful location has to offer. I also was waiting to see what the problem with the parking lots was. THERE is none. The longest it took me to walk was about three minutes from the back lot through nicely landscaped property. The stalls are small..but who cares you are in maui. overall, i would never hesitate to come back. one of the best vacations i have ever had. tip..eat the ribs by the pool

Unfriendly staff, sneaky parking charges

Prepare to pay $10 per day parking charges and spend an average 5 to 10 minutes looking for a parking space. The safe (locker) in room did not work. You have to pay for internet too. The staff is very unfriendly and rude.

Great for couples

We had a great, relaxing time in Maui. The Royal Lahaina has a great beach right at the hotel, but you will need a car if you want to explore on your own. Be sure to check out a snorkeling trip! In our mid-twenties, we were a much younger couple than most. We had fun, but we usually stayed up late. Note that the pool and other amenities may close early (5pm).

Awesome trip

The staff were very friendly and helpful. My only regret was the rug in the cottage was flithy. Did have a mouse in the room and we were placed in another room without any hassle. They took care of us and I thank them for the attention to detail. Made my first time to Maui very enjoyable. I would diffinately go back.

Great place, horrible stuff

We stayed at Royal Lahaina for 5 nights. Hotel is amazing and definitely worth the price. We had ocean view room and although I was not expecting any great view I was wrong - view was simply amazing. Beach was extremely nice and clean, and from same strange reason almost empty. Both pools are super nice, and having bar really next to pool was pretty cool as well. They definitely have nicer pools next door at Sheraton, but it looked a little bit like overkill to me. So far so good Royal Lahaina! Weird part - $10 parking fee in smallest parking boxes which you ever seen and $10 wireless internet fee , that sounds a bit too much. Having Jacuzzi super far from hotel somewhere behind parking lots is freaking weird too. On a negative side - I'm sad how much can bad stuff ruin great property. Let's start with check in process - no early checkin possible ( we got there at 1 PM), but that's not a big deal , they simply didn't have rooms ready yet, understandable. Upgrade to ocean front view room from ocean view room - checkin person was saying that regular price difference is $150 (incorrect, it it's $100 based on their website) and that she can upgrade us for $60. When I asked if that's the best what she can do for me, she pretty much yelled at me that she is giving me more than 50% off and what else I want. Ok, I let it be, and went to the pool as we still couldn't check in anyway. When we come back later to check in, there was different person so I asked about upgrade again - now I got an answer that price difference is $100 but she can do $75 for me. Quite a difference over two hours, sounded like used cars sales place to me. Ok, we let it be and stayed in ocean view room. If you gonna grab beach towels at "beach activities" be ready for someone trying to sell you something each time you go there. I was offered whale watching tour three times in two days by same guy. Forth time he probably finally realized that I won't do whale watching , so offered dinner cruise instead. On other occasion he asked if we have seen luau yet- I told him yes, we have seen it yesterday at Old Lahaina Luau. He didn't give up, and started to say how they have much better luau at Royal Lahaina, how food is better, they have fire show etc and was strongly recommending it. Other day I was offered some super amazing after sun lotion. Basically, I was just expecting them to offer me time share , but that didn't happen fortunately :) I'm fine with people trying to help out and offer interesting activities, but keep it cool and don't push that much. That's what excursion booth is for and not towel place, right? Housekeeping - they give you two large towels a day- so basically you will end up asking them for more towels every day. Checkout - I asked if they have late checkout. Nope, not an option as they are sold out. Honestly, what is likelihood of every single guests showing up at 3 PM? Zero, yes late checkout should be an option , perhaps for some fee in places like this. However they have "hospitality room" which gives you 30 minutes access to shower. You have to sign up for it in the morning to get your spot. I tried that at 7:30 AM, and all spots which would help were already gone. In a conclusion, great place, but run by some weird management. Would definitely come back if stuff would be better.

musty smell

We made a last minute reservation on Maui. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, but it had a musty smell. All in all, an ok stay, but not very exciting.

I was overall very pleased with accomodations. I would have given it a 5 except for limited parking for rental cars. We paid $10 per night and walked about 2-3 blocks to our cottage.
