good enough
Room service was decent. Staff was pretty friendly, I smoked so many cigarettes in that room even after they told me not to like five times and I still got my initial 100 dollar deposit back. Pretty legit

Good and affordable place in Kaanapali
I had a decent stay in one of the cottages while attending a conference in a nearby hotel. The room was ordinary standard, though not great, but after all, you're on Maui and Kaanapali isn't the cheapest part of it. WiFi is provided by a third-party and costs extra. The beach in front of the hotel is nice and not crowded. You can use the beach walkway to get around or use the complimentary Kaanapali shuttle which gets you from the hotel entrance to Whalers Village (every 20 minutes from 10 AM to 10 PM, with breaks).

Short walk from hotel
5 to 10 minutes to the north there is the Castaway Café (follow the beach walkway) which is an affordable alternative to the pricy hotel restaurants.

Wish I could stay longer!
Love the little bungalows...even the garden view is nice. King size bed was Heavenly ;o) All the little essentials are there so I don't need to bring with me. Would be nice if the room service was available in the after noon instead of breakfast and 6pm on.

Long walk from hotel
Have to go to Whalers Village and check out the new Yogurtland. It was great, awsome value and with 12 flavors to choose from. Self serve. Wow it was so much fun visiting this shop.

Royal Lahaina Resort
It was a nice hotel, lots of shops but I was on business and the room was not cool enough for me to sleep well. It was clean enough and the shower was great.

Unexpected delight!
Viewed the Royal Lahina Resort over 10 years and at that time it appeared to be run down at little, they had done some receent remodling that now has made it a good **** star hotel friendly staff, great rooms. could eat on our own private balcony and watch the whales or sunset when ever we could. Just a wonderful unexpected delight.

Relaxed and good location
We've stayed at the Royal Lahaina before. It's not as impressive as some top hotels, but it's still pretty nice, and a better value cost-wise. They're busy doing some major renovations, though this didn't cause us any problems. The tower we stayed in has already been renovated, and was quite tastefully done and nice inside. The bathroom was small but serviceable, and the view (part ocean, part hotel grounds and nearby area) was great, though the balcony is too small for more than a couple of chairs. The restaurant and bar area are good and casual, nice for breakfast or lunch before venturing down to the pool or beach (a nice, clean beach, by the way). There are plenty of more interesting choices available for dinner. My only real complaint is that I like going from pool to jaccuzi, but the only jaccuzi here is way on the other side of the parking lot where you'll never find it (I took a fifteen minute trek out there just to see, and I still couldn't find it!). They told me that the renovation plans include a new jaccuzi out where the pools are, so maybe by next year they will have corrected this. Otherwise, this is a nice hotel with a friendly and relaxed feel and a great beach location. One complaint about Hawaii in general: it has become way too politically correct as far as smoking is concerned. My wife smokes, and there are very few places where this is allowed, even at the outdoor areas of shopping centers. It's a form of intolerance that doesn't fit well with the otherwise friendly, peaceful setting.
