It's ok
Stay away from those cottages, they can sure use some update. Also, there were lots of ants.... Maybe the tower rooms are better.

Ok, not great
Good location, got a free upgrade. Don't stay in the cottage, really old, kinda gross. Tower is much better. Initial front desk people very nice, competent, and super accommodating and friendly. On our way out, lady was rude. Sort of a bummer.

Present Day Garden of Eden
Truly relaxing. Our first trip to Hawai'i and hopefully not our last. We loved the Cottage. It gave us a more homelike setting. We had views of ocean, mountains, garden & on the 5th tee of the golf course. Can't get better than that. Perfect weather. It was everything and more than we expected. The BEST vacation we ever had & we are senior citizens and have been many places. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Next time, two weeks.

Branch out to the surrounding hotels and the town of Lahaina for more choices. The hotel was good but we felt the breakfast buffet was pricey and more than some dinners we had. Too much for daily breakfast.

Sometimes very good, sometimes bad - Avoid Cottages!!
Experience at this hotel was really up and down. Initially, got a pretty good deal but ended up in a garden cottage far away from the ocean. The main issue was the room is really old. I read other reviews, and it's true, the cottage rooms really need an upgrade, are not very big, the window air conditioner wall unit was super loud, and the bathtub was really old tile (even the floor) with black spots of grout. I don't think it was due to cleaning, just really that old and gross. My wife being a good sport, said the tub would be okay, but she'd wear slippers in the shower! I knew it would be an issue. So I asked the front desk for another option. They gave us a tower unit room (no king, 2 doubles, but that was fine) which was really nice! Pretty new and nice, flat screen TV, nice decor, bigger than the cottage. More what you'd expect for the price - we were super happy after the cottage, and the front desk staff was super accommodating and friendly, I ended up talking to 3 different front desk people (about the upgrade, then checking out the room, then moving our stuff) and they were very efficient and friendly, having written down about the upgrade, etc.. It was a nice upturn after the initial sad cottage experience. The location on the beach is great! Good snorkeling, about 20min walking to Whalers village (to eat) and a grassy area to lay out, but you could not see the water from the grassy area when you sat down. Please trim down the bushes!!! At the checkout, lady was pretty unfriendly, and when I showed her we had beach towels and asked if I could turn them in, she was rude and said we had to return them to the location outside. I figured they could handle it but I guess not. Just wished she could have been nicer about it. So sometimes great service, sometimes irritating. Some great rooms, some unacceptable. Pros: - Nice beach location, good snorkeling location. Beautiful views. - Tower rooms newly remodeled, nice and good size. - Reasonable prices. - Two decent pools, nice area to layout. - Didn't eat at restaurant, but nice views. - Walking distance to Whalers Village (20min), free trolley to Whalers Village. - Ice cream store on site, business area with free internet usage for maybe 30min? - Some very good front desk people. - Had a torch lighting ceremony that was fun to watch for 5min. Cons: - Cottage rooms old, don't choose these!! - Layout area - people smoking, can't see the water. - Charge for everything - but that is pretty much par for the course in Maui. $10 for parking, no free wifi, restaurant expensive, $30 for cabana chairs - only till 5pm! Only get 2 towels, have to keep a towel card, the towel place etc... closes at 5pm. - Some irritating front desk people Okay, good location, don't stay in the cottage room!! Hope you get a nice front desk person.

Lovely and relaxing
Staff were really nice and friendly, valet and bell were helpful regarding tourist attractions and suggestions. Rooms in the cottages were great; apparently the rooms in the tower have been remodeled and the cottages are in holding due to the slow economy. Loved staying in the cottage vs. the tower though, it was located on beautiful grounds covered in lush hawaiian flowers and plants, with paths throughout where people jogged and walked all day. Big plantation shutter doors open up to a porch with a table, chairs and lounge chair to enjoy a coffee in the morning watching the sky turn light blue. Beach was located just a few steps away, and the cottages made the stay seem very peaceful, a real getaway. Get the frosty beverage in a pineapple from the restaurant bar while sitting out at the pool or beach. Totally makes your day! I gave amenities a 4 because I didn't really use much, I just kind of lounged and relaxed, but it looked like they had everything you'd like. Lots of watersports and day trips from which to choose.

Aloha Life
Okay stay overall
This is the second time I've stayed at The Royal Lahaina and I must say I was more satisfied the first time around. From the moment I checked in I didn't feel the great vibe I felt last time. I wanted two full size beds and they didn't have that available. I wasn't going with my husband so I was really looking forward to my own bed, which I didn't get to have. Also, I am aware that check in is at 3pm and we arrived at 2:30pm because last time I went I was able to check in early but the lady at the desk made sure to remind me it wasn't 3pm yet so my room wasn't ready. I went back at 3:05pm and got my keys and when I went up to my room they were still cleaning it, so that was kind of annoying. After it was done being cleaned I was told the safe wasn't working so they had to send someone up to fix it. So to have someone come in and out of your room was not how I expected to start off my trip. Overall, I guess the stay was ok. I live on Oahu so I think the next time I go to Maui I will try a different hotel.

Good location poor in amenities
Good clean sound facilities - limited amenities - medium value for cost - geared to older couples not to families or young couples - restaurants and menus could use sprucing up - staff helpful but not knowledgeable - for the money could had a bungalow at same location - beach location very good - easiness to find at night after a long trip not so much - q unite a few restrictive rules not people friendly - it's a decent value but could be better

Tropical Paradise
The Royal Lahiana Resort was everything advertised and more. We had an ocean front room in the tower and were never disappointed by the gental breezes and sounds of the ocean at night. There was great entertainment every night in the lounge that you could simply enjoy from the balcony or in the lounge. The staff were very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure an enjoyable stay.
