In a very windy part of the island
This resort is located at the most windy part and the part that gets most rain part of the island. I didn't know that till i got there. When I heard there are other resorts that are just 10 mins away that gets less wind and rain is warmer, i was a bit bummed.

musty smell
We made a last minute reservation on Maui. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, but it had a musty smell. All in all, an ok stay, but not very exciting.

excellent facility, staff very accomodating and food excellent
I was overall very pleased with accomodations. I would have given it a 5 except for limited parking for rental cars. We paid $10 per night and walked about 2-3 blocks to our cottage.

Great location, friendly and very helpful staff. Stayed in the huts and was very comfortable. Drinks and food were somewhat expensive, but there are other options nearby.

I'll be going back
This hotel has a beautiful beach, great breakfast buffet, nice patio for dining and watching the sun set. Dinner entertainment was top notch. The room was very clean and nicely decorated and had a LARGE bathroom. My ocean view room overlooked more of the golf course than the ocean. Avoid room #29 on any floor. All other rooms likely have better views of the ocean.

Close but not too close
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royal Lahaina for his birthday and our anniversary and we could not be happier with our experience. This place is not a "resort" in the sense that there are no huge, landscaped, pool areas like at many of the other resorts. This was a plus I thought, as we were traveling without children and this lends to a more relaxing atmosphere. The hotel is very close the Black Rock which is the perfect place for a beginner in snorkeling like myself. There was about a 1.5 mile walk to Whalers Village which is very pleasant and keeps you away from the noise and bustle of that area. The room and bedding was clean and comfortable. All the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Parking can be tricky, but all parking in HI involves tight squeezes in my opinion, and this was not a unique inconvenience at this hotel.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you want to snorkel black rock then coming around from the less crowded Royal Lahaina side is far superior to the more crowded Sheraton side. You will see a lot more fish and turtles this way.

Awesome View!
We booked an Ocean View room and ended up with a room on the 11th floor overlooking the ocean. Beautiful! Every morning we could watch the whales while eating breakfast. For the money, it's a great location and the rooms are nice and comfortable. You can walk along the ocean walk and go anywhere on the Kaanapali beach easily. The only complaint I would have is the room was really cold every night. We tried to adjust the a/c without too much success. Overall, I would stay at the hotel again.

Lahania has shopping and several places to eat right along the ocean. There are also several daily boat trips that leave from the dock.

overall experience
We enjoyed the beautiful view and quiet environment, as well as the beach walk and nice beach. Missed having a hot tub near by, there is only one available at the tennis court, kind of far from the pools and hidden. Thinking they should have free local telephone calls, but then most people do have cell phones. The staff was very nice and accomadating. Definitely would go back there. Restaurant and music were nice.
