Best room ever

I've stayed in some nice places and I have to say the room I stayed in at the Royal Lahaina was the nicest hands down. Get a partial ocean view room, the view was fantastic. We were able to see whales playing from our balcony. That being said, skip the luau and the drinks at the resort. The show at the luau was nice but the food and free drinks were unremarkable. The drinks and breakfast buffet at the resort were good but overpriced.

Maui Getaway

Since being remodeled the Royal Lahaina is a great hotel value in the very best location on Maui. Rooms are very tastefully decorated with a lot of native carved heavy wood furnishings and heavy wood slat lani doors for ventilation and light control. Great snorkeling less than 1/2 mi up beach at a state park. Close to Lahaina for dining and shopping. Also great Italian dining 1/8 mi up the street on site. Parking is tight but we always managed to find a spot, however there is a $10/day self parking charge.

Anniversary Getaway Celebration

The Royal Lahaina was an O.K. experience. The Cottages are old and run down, and need a lot of attention. Bathrooms in cottages were tired looking. I asked to get upgraded to the Towers the second day, and without hesitation, they gave us a "garden view" room in the tower. In reality it was both garden view and ocean view. If you can get over looking at the green roof with air conditioners, then you have a nice view of the ocean and sunset every night. I wouldn't call the Royal Lahaina a resort. $10 parking per night, which sometimes the luau guests take our spots causing me to have to park far away. $3.95 per night to use the safe in the rooms. Great location in Kaanapali and very convenient to the Whaler's Village and Lahaina. Free shuttle will take you to the Whaler's village or if you like to walk, you can get there on the beach walkway in 30 minutes. Staff was very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a value priced package, then this is your best bet in Kaanapali. It's the cheapest hotel on the stretch, but the grounds make you feel like you are in paradise. I would recommend this to someone who will not be spending a lot of time on the hotel grounds. There were not too many activities to do around the "resort". Their luau was an O.K. experience. If you have been to one before and want the convenience of not having to drive after drinking, then this is it. the drinks were not stellar. cheap liquor. I definitely recommend a luau on the Kaanapali strip. many of the hotels on the strip have luaus that you can walk to. Overall the an OK resort. Good for the money. GREAT beach. not busy not crowded. The Towel card is pain, but ok.... If you are looking for location, this is it.

honeymoon

The view from the ocean front room is amazing and definietly worth the upgrade. There is a difference between ocean view versus occean front if you upgrade and pay extra make sure its ocean front that you are getting. We saw whales every morning while eating breakfast on our patio. The overall hotel is all right but definitely the room and ocean front view in the tower make it a wonderful hotel.

aloha!!

The detached cottages were a little old and worn out, the a/c was loud all night, the shower was not able to spray all the water, the tiles were cracked and dirty..... all in all the place could use some updating but the biggest complaint I have is the parking.... you pay $10 extra to park the car each night you stay but since they do have a luau that alot of people come to each night you wind up parking so far back in the lot when you come back to your room before 10pm!!! I think the $10 fee should include valet or make the people coming for the luau use that and leave the lot for those staying at the resort.

Vacation time after son's wedding

Very clean and nice resort hotel. A little disappointed in the pool area. Not very many chairs available. Only thing we would have changed is to ask for a room on the sunny side. Staff was very helpful -- special thanks to the Pleasant Holiday booking staff for suggesting the raft whale watching -- far beyond expectation!!

Great hotel!

This was a great hotel to stay in while vacationing in Maui. Perfect location, great hotel restaurant, two pools, and right on the beach. The beach was clean and the water was crystal clear! They have bars at the restaurant as well as pool-side. Staff was friendly.

Breakfast buffet is incredible! Great assortment of meat, fruits, carbs, etc. Under $20 and that includes juices, coffee, and tea. We had breakfast there 3 of the 5 mornings and enjoyed eating outside while whale watching :)

Maui visit

Hotel room was very nice. Annoyed by overly aggressive valet Parkers not allowing me to stop and check in and then self park my car. They charge for everything. Even if you self park they still charge $10 per day. Internet is another $10 per day. Restaurant was great but disorganized. Every morning you had to stand in a line up and wait to be seated in a half full facility. Why not have the hostess seat you at empty table and pour you coffee while you wait.

We love Maui

The rooms, location, and amenities were great at the Royal Lahaina. The pool and beach area was especially nice. The only thing we didn't like was the extra parking fee of $10 per day self park or $15 for valet parking. We took the self park, as we were going to be coming and going a lot. Most times we had to park in the extra parking lot quite a distance from hotel as all of the closer spots were full. The parking spots were small, and lots of vehicles parked over the lines, making it difficult to utilize all the spaces.

Highrise hotel on a great beach (Ka'anapali)!

We were originally supposed to be on the 7th floor but asked to be moved higher as the view is much better when you're above the trees. The 11th floor (of 12) is wonderful! Our view was SE which is the preferred side and overlooks the several low rise buildings that are also part of Royal Lahaina. The rooms are clean and nice but do not have kitchenttes The hotel amenities are good, but way above the cost that you need to pay. Same with the restaurant; food is decent but expensive. Rent your gear at Boss Frog or Snorkel Bob's instead of the hotel. Don't be fooled by the Boss Frog cheap rental rate as that's for the outdated style snorkkel gear, not the nice silicone masks and "dry" snorkel that is much better and they talk you into when you get there. Parking for the hotel is a challenge because it fills up quickly and you have to go far out to the "north forty" to find a space, which you have to pay ten dollars a night for. That's annoying. Basil Tomatoes restaurant is wonderful, but expensive. Go at 5pm to get the early bird 50% off 5-6pm but seats go fast.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The restaurants are so expensive around Royal Lahaina. Then we found CJ's Deli/The Comfort Zone just outside the entrance to the hotel. It's in the small shopping plaza facing Hwy 30 at Kekaa Dr. (not down on Ka'anapali Pkwy). It has wonderful breakfasts, lunches and dinners for all around eight to twelve dollars in a cafe atmoshpere. I had the the best eggs benedict and a great sandwich another day. They also have plates with fish, meatloaf, chicken, etc.
