Hyatt could care less for the non- corporate quest.
we booked 8 nights and 9 days. we were not told that Alstate Ins was having a coorporate funtion at this hotel. we were denied use of the pool and its facilities for 3 days. we had come to Maui and this hotel to celebrate our 37th year of marige and had planed to celebrate with a large dinner at their supposedly 5 star resturaunt. when we arived for dinner we were told that all the hotel dining facilities were closed so that the staff could work the function. i will never stay at a hYATT AGAIN. i have also canceled my Alstate policies.

THE REALLY UGLY
Very dissapaointed in the room. Felt as though we could not complain to the hotel due to booking through [...]. We paid extra for an an ocean front room and received a corner room with a view of the ocean. The room was not prepared as it was extremely warm upon our arrival. The bathroom was so small we had to sit sideways on the toilet. We were unable to dry off in the bathroom after taking showers due to it being so small.

Stay Away During Construction !!!
The worst part about this hotel is the ONGOING CONSTRUCTION. This could have been better if they actually notified customers prior to booking. When we asked the staff they said "this was unscheduled construction and we are very sorry". Let me tell you that remodeling on this scale of the atrium, lobby and pool access areas had to of been scheduled far in advance. Constant jack hammering, cutting, and pounding from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. daily was simply unacceptable. We actually left the resort 6 out of 7 days because of the noise. No refunds, discounts or adjustments were offered. I honestly expect more from Hyatt but they obviously do not care about their customers. We will simply do our talking with our dollars next time we book a hotel elsewhere. Room maid service was poor at best with the minimum care being the norm. Breakfast was included with our package and even though it was good it lacked change and imagination on a daily basis. Get them in and get them out was clearly their mission in the Swan Court restaurant. The rest of the restaurants on the property were overpriced for their offerings. Although the property is waterfront there is no beach to swim or lay out to speak of. Parking is limited with extremely small spaces; had to get in on the passenger side once to get our car out. The positive aspects of this property were the beautiful waterfront room and the walking distance proximity of Whaler's Village with several restaurants and shops. My advice is to STAY AWAY DURING CONSTRUCTION. At last check it's scheduled through December 2011.

Not so great for a honeymoon
If you want a honeymoon that makes you feel special, then don't go here. Honeymooners are a dime a dozen. The hotel does nothing to help you celebrate (room upgrade, etc, like other hotels do). The restaurants are extremely over priced & you have to make reservations for most of them. The drinks at the bars are also overpriced ($10 a peice). Also, if you put down a debit card for your ammenities, they will put a $100 per day hold on your card for the length of your stay. They didn't tell me this upon check in, and we had $700 we could not touch until they released the hold at the end of our stay! On the other hand, the grounds are beautiful. The pool and gardens are amazing! My husband had a massage at the spa, and gave it an A++. Honestly, I would reccommend staying at a smaller, more personable hotel instead of a overpriced resort.

Lifes an Island
There's someone else in my room
I've stayed at the Hyatt 8 times in the last 9 years. At first I really loved this hotel. The pool is great as are the ground. It really has a nice paradise feel to it. But the beach by Black rock and the Sheraton is way better and much more convenant for swimming and snorkeling. But my real problem is that there service has really gone down. At first it was very welcoming. But we stayed back in December and we didn't really like the view from the room and asked to be moved. They didn't have any more rooms in that catagory (partial ocean view)(which is understandable) available and it was $150 per night to upgrade to deluxe ocean view. We decided it wasn't worth it (we don't spend that much time in the room anyway) but I had a few moments in the room and I check the Hyatt.com site on my computer and it was only $75.00 more per night on the package I booked(AAA) for the Ocean view. So apparently I can do a better job than the front desk at findin a room rate at the Hyatts own site. Now on this trip I booked a 10 night package through Orbitz during the begining of August. At the end of the trip we decided to take a unplaned road trip to Hana (the other side of Maui) and spend a few nights there and then return the morning our flight home to spend some time at the beach and then take a shower at the Hyatt and and get ready for our flight home. We did pay for all ten nights right? I did'nt check out, right. We'll apparently when they saw that our bags were gone they felt that they had the right to give our all ready paid in full room to someone else. Looks like they got paid double for the same room to me......Btw, I'm a diamond member I wonder if this is just the special treatment or if everyone can look forward to this.

Disappointing
My husband and I got married and honey mooned at the Maui Hyatt 10 years ago. We had a fabulous time then. This trip was to celebrate our 10 year anniversary at the same location. Nothing has changed in 10 years. That is NOT a good thing. The hotel looked as though it could use some TLC as it is getting a little rough around the edges. It is very expensive (my husband had his first $15.00 martini because he asked for Bombay Saphire Gin) The mandatory additional $15.00 resort fee was ridiculous on top of the premium resort rates they charge. If the Hyatt needs to charge extra for the paper and the use of the health club then it should be optional based on guests needs. In addition to that I learned that I won't get credit for my 8 night stay (3 rooms) towards my Hyatt rewards account since I booked on line!!! We enjoyed revisiting our special day, and of course Maui is beautiful, but I am sure we could have stayed somewhere less expensive, or at least newer, and had an anniversary dinner at the Hyatt to celebrate.

Working Stiff
Not all they said it would be
The food is mostly fried or buffet and WAY overpriced. Parking was a battle everyday. We had a late flight out and they were not willing to let us have a late check-out on a Tuesday! Not to mention, the room we were given had the staircase area cut out of the space making the room small, and they need to exterminate more frequently. The view from the room was ok. We would not go back for the price even on a package deal.

R and R?!
Great hotel but overpriced.
My boyfriend and I planned this trip for 6 months. It was the first real vacation I had ever taken. I expected more from such a highly rated hotel. There was only handful of the staff that were friendly. Which included one bellman, [...], he was awesome, Who we unfortunately didn't meet until the day we were leaving. And one concierge ([...], he was awesome too). Most of the other staff, from the front desk to the waitstaff and bartenders, were extremely unfriendly and made me feel we were bothering them by being there. I do understand the economy is not so good right now and it was a very slow time (Nov 1-7) but that should have been all the more reason for them to be a bit more pleasant. It was amazing how unhappy and unfriendly the local people of Hawaii are or at least come across as being which is funny because i was just reading that Hawaii ranks # 2 as happiest states. We found a cockroach (about the size of a quarter) in our bathtub the last morning of our stay. Thank goodness it was the last day otherwise I don't think I could have stayed there any longer or been able to sleep at night! When we mentioned it to the frontdesk, we didn't get much response or even aplology, more of a "yeah it's pretty common"....??? In a five star hotel, really? I was already aware of the need to stock up on our own waters since it can get pretty pricey for drinks and I knew there was a fridge in the room. On the second day we went for a swim at the pool and came back to the room to have some water and found the fridge wasn't getting cold. We go down to tell the front desk and were actually told "they don't get that cold. But I guess it wasn't a big enough deal to stop you from using our pool and other ammenities" He was laughing when he said it, so was probably joking...? but really what does that have to do with a fridge getting cold? Just another example of a not so friendly staff. We did meet quite a few friendly travlers that we compared hotel and condo prices with. I think next time I would just rent a condo which seems to be a couple thousand dollars cheaper. One of the main reasons I stayed away from doing so was not wanting to cook. The breakfast buffet included in our room was an awesome deal since it would have set us back $60 a day. But there's really not much rotation on what is served. There are about 6 items to choose from. The basics sausage, Bacon, eggs, french toast or pancakes, potatoes, oatmeal and cereal. Which means you are pretty much eating the same thing every morning and it can get pretty old. I actually wanted to cook after the 3rd and 4th day!. The pool is absolutely beautiful but the beach is where we wanted to be the entire time so we only used the pool one time so it was a waste. Especially to be charged a $15 resort fee for EVERY day of your stay. The fist day we didn't even check in until 8:30 pm and were charged as well as the last day check out by noon and still $15 resort fee. This seems a little much to me. All in all we had a fabulous trip because we were together and we got to fall in love again. If I ever go back to Maui I think i would even be up for camping on the beach. At least if a cockroach appears I'd understand. It really is a beautiful place but I was happy to come home to my mountains and friendly neighbors!

Vacation Maui 2010
Overall it was very nice. Very friendly staff. The rooms need an upgrade and to be better clean, the first room that they put us in, it was very clean (finding hair in the bathtub and and also in the sink) and dusty. The floor at the bathroom also need a better mop hen I went to dry some water that I spill on the floor, the towel came back brown.

Disappointing
Room was dark, small and not at all worth the rate we paid; we were also slapped with an extra 15.00 per day of fees; air conditioner rattled like a jet engine every night from 4am on until the morning; we have been in 5 star hotels that really exemplified the contrast in value-the room was dark and dank; the place was too crowded down by the pools, and noisy. We moved to another hotel next door and paid less than half what we paid for the Hyatt and it was 10 times the quality. Live & learn-we will never go to the Hyatt again.
