You can enjoy Hawaii's mild climate when you open the sliding glass doors to the lanai adjoining your suite at the Honua Kai Resort in Lahaina. If you are traveling with a large group, you will appreciate the three-bedroom suites with 1,750 square feet of indoor space and spacious lanais. A visit to the resort's aquatic playground will give you a chance to relax by a pool, soak in a hot tub or splash down a water slide.

Highlights

The produce and meat on the menu at Duke's Beach House come from farms on Maui. There are fruit platters on the breakfast menu, and hamburgers are served for lunch. Fresh fish is on the dinner menu. Appetizers and tropical drinks are available at the Ohia Bar. Organic and local produce is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner at Aina Gourmet Market. You can also buy groceries here to prepare a meal in the gourmet kitchen in your suite. Pizza Paradiso and Nachos Grande are less than a mile from the resort. Pamper yourself with a massage at the Ho'ola Spa Maui while you enjoy an ocean view. If you want a view of the ocean while you play golf, head over to the Plantation Course at Kapalua Golf & Tennis approximately four miles from the resort.

Policies

Due to renovations, the Hokulani  infinity pool is closed until further notice. Three other pools are still available on site.

The comforts of (a luxury) home

We've stayed at the Honua Kai twice now and made this trip for our honeymoon. It's a great hotel with awesome rooms with a full service kitchen, laundry and separate bedroom. The hotel staff is very friendly and eager to help you with anything you need. The Honua Kai is very modern and everything is high quality in the rooms, from the bedding, to the kitchen and laundry facilities. Stop at Costco right outside of the airport to stock up and save a lot of money from the local (and very expensive) supermarkets. My only (slight) complaint is that the hotel does a full cleaning your room on a schedule of once each 3 days. The pools are wonderful and the restaurants on site are great places to meet new friends. Highly recommended hotel.

Fantastic Maui getaway

Honua Kai far exceeded my expectations. The staff was tremendously friendly and helpful. The free water by the elevator flavored with cucumber , or lime, or pineapple everyday was awesome. The grounds are fabulous and the beach is superb. Can't lraise it enough. Location was perfect as it was remote enough for peace and quiet, yet Lahaina was a short 5 minute drive away and theres a grocery store literally right across the street (the on-property store has minimal stuff and costs much more). Would love to come back here on day!!!

Great property but a little expensive

Loved everything! The 2 bedroom suite was great, everything we needed for our family of five. Loved the pools but the beach in front can be rough and has coral.

Beautiful resort with great suites

We only stayed 2 nights but loved the 2 bedroom suite. We loved that it was new and very clean. There was lots of space for our family of five. We had a nice mountain view with large balcony. Kitchen was well equipped. Bathroom amenities were nice. We would have stayed longer but it's a bit expensive. We went to the spa and it was nice. The kids loved the pools. The beach has coral in the water in front so you should go further down. We had dinner at Duke's one night- very good and great chicken fingers for kids. Has a nice resort feel and lots of kids.

Family vacation in paradise!!!

This was the best and most relaxing vacation I've ever been on! The staff was great! They were always polite and accommodated our needs in a timely matter. The resort was beautiful and clean. There is a store across the street which was very convenient. Dukes restaurant is on site and has great food and drinks. My kids loved the pool with the slide and the waterfall. Couldn't keep them away from there. Just down the street is a place where you could rent mopeds for a small fee. My son and brother rented and enjoyed the view of Maui riding the mopeds.Planning on returning this year!

Great hotel, perfect location

Staff was a little short and not too friendly, however, they did what they needed. Apart from that the hotel (apartments) are great. Had a studio with Ocean View. Loved it. Nice restaurant, nice beach. We didn't, but you can rent snorkle gear, boogie board, paddle board etc... even chairs and beach toys for kids. I was there with a 11year old and he liked it. Fun pool slide for the younger ones. OK snorkeling. Recommended!!!! Will come back again definitely.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Rent a car and drive around and discover your own beaches. Saw more sea turtles doing that than on organized snorkling trips. Also GOOFY FOOT SURFING SCHOOL!!!! go in the morning. Highly recommend. Best of all surfing schools

2nd visit back to Honua Kai Resort

This was our second visit back to Honua Kai resort having a great vacation in 2011. This vacation we decided to stay a bit longer than our previous visit and reserved 13 nights. This time we had a 1 bed/1 BR instead of a 2 bed/2 BR overlooking the car park and mountains. the 1 bed was a little to small for a familty of 4 and would definately book a 2 bed/2 BR. The romm standards was high which we expected and the cleaning was better than our last visit. However cant help but feel this resort was built in the wrong location. Too much wind and often cloudy due to the proximity of the mountain and trade winds. Go anywhere else and the wind is much lighter - even a few yards down the beach to the next hotel! This would be a major factor in deciding weather to stay back at this resort again because you just cant relax with gale force winds which last right into the evening. Dukes was excellent and we dinned there 3 times this trip. Nothing else to really complain about apart from those strong winds. May consider another location next time mainly due to the wind and cloudy weather..
