Lovely location in Kona

This is an older hotel in an excellent location in Kona. The rooms are dated for sure, but we had a lovely view from our spacious room. And there were many cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Great for a short stay before we drove up to Waikoloa for our resort vacation!

Nice place to stay

While the hotel does need some updating the overall experience was amazing. The room had a great view and we found ourselves dreading check out time because it was so beautiful. Parking is good in the morning and afternoon but can be tricky on evenings and weekends due to the luau. Luau noise was not a problem because it ended around eight. We did have some obnoxious neighbors who were smoking on the balcony which prevented us from keeping our window open at night but you can't pick those who stay next to you so this is no fault of the hotel. Overall great experience and would book again. Nice room, people and experience.

Great location

Older hotel, beachy feel. Front desk staff could be nicer. Nice location for walking around Kona. Would recommend only if you get a great deal. Don't pay rack rates.

Royal Kona-August-2014

Great location on the big island of HI. The builidng is rather outdated (late 1960s). Amenities are OK. Does have a seaside enclave for a salty swim. The interriors of the detached building needs serious refurbishing. The carpets are old and the tiled floors are worn out. The off-season rate was competitive. Good Luau!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The Sheraton and Marriott are higher cost but much better options (not close to Kona City area).

Great stay!

Great location, awesome bar, awesome entrance! This is a really fun place to stay as a couple! Don'so tiki bar is downstairs, and Hugo's restaurant is next door. Great value and great size room. Not brand new, but, very clean and friendly and walking distance to downtown Kailua (5-10 minute walk).

Horrible Choice for small children

The staff was friendly and did all they could to make things comfortable for our stay. Shortly after check-in the power went partially out to no fault of the hotel. No air conditioning, elevators were also out, kitchen in the restaurant went out. They did bring 2 portable fan's up to our room to compensate and granted us a very late check out to make up for the inconvenience. The balcony outside our room and railing outside of the room were clearly not up to code... really low and the spacing between was about 9" plenty of room for a small child to fall between falling several flights of stairs while trying to look at the fish in a small pond down below. Outdated accommodations, pictures on website must have been of the very best room they had. The view of an oven view room was the best thing about the stay.
