Wonderful location But hotel needs upgrading

The location can't be beat. We had an ocean front room and it was fantastic. We watched a whale breach while we were unpacking! The room itself needed a good upgrade and many repairs. The toilet handle (flusher) kept falling off, the toilet would run unless you jiggled the handle, the sink hot water lever was barely attached, the socket holding the light bulb to the night stand lamp was broken and the bulb was dangling. The air conditioner made such a clanging noise every time it started up or shut down it would wake us with a start! On night two we couldn't take it and had to report it. They did have it fixed by the next day so I was impressed with that! I left a tip for the cleaning staff on day two ( I meant to leave one each morning but on day one I forgot) and the morning I did tip, they didn't clean the bathroom or leave any shampoo, etc. I called housecleaning and asked for an extra washcloth and shampoo. A few hours later they brought it to our room and I cleaned it myself. I decided not to tip daily after that and the next night they set our alarm clock to go off at midnight! I guess they told us!! I wouldn't stay here again as there are other hotels with just as good a view. I never felt as though they were glad we were staying there and we were there for 9 nights.

Nightlife tip: In Hotel

If you are looking for night life, this is not the Island for you. The entire Island shuts down right around 7:30 pm. The restaurants are open but by about 9:00 pm they are ready to close as well.

Nice place to stay

While the hotel does need some updating the overall experience was amazing. The room had a great view and we found ourselves dreading check out time because it was so beautiful. Parking is good in the morning and afternoon but can be tricky on evenings and weekends due to the luau. Luau noise was not a problem because it ended around eight. We did have some obnoxious neighbors who were smoking on the balcony which prevented us from keeping our window open at night but you can't pick those who stay next to you so this is no fault of the hotel. Overall great experience and would book again. Nice room, people and experience.

Always stay at this hotel

We live on the other side of the island and whenever we go to Kona we stay here. It's inexpensive, great location right on the water and in the middle of everything. The room is clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly. We haven't eaten there so I can't attest to the food. We managed to catch the entertainment from the luau from our balcony one evening and it was the best I've seen. If you're looking for room service and spa type things, you won't get that here, and the pool didn't look good when we were last there (we've never used that either) but the pool area and bar are right on the water so sitting there is nice.

Excellent location

The location couldn't be better. Seeing spinner Dolphins and whales from your room was brilliant. Great being able to walk into town. Parking not a problem. It's not a luxury hotel but a good place to stay to explore the Kona Coast. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Lovely place to watch the sun go down.

No need to pay to park the car. I always was able to park the car outside the car park.
