Less than Mediocre

Despite having looked for a cheap hotel, I do not feel the pictures of the property accurately represent the environment. The hotel is old and out of shape and the room looked nothing like I viewed online. The bed was uncomfortable with two large indentations on either side indicating this room/bed was most likely the original mattress fr when the hotel was built. One of the outlets began to sizzle when a lamp was turned on which didn't seem safe. Worst part was the noise which could be heard halfway down the hall and the constant camp fire smell from the public grounds behind the hotel. Nothing against the staff as they were friendly.

Great Vacation Spot

Excellent pricing, their in house tour/attractions people were great. Good way to find out things to do on the island and get an opportunity to buy packages. The staff was very courteous and pleasant. Extra perks we found were that there was a city park right behind it. SO, there was a swimming area to "wade" and play. PLUS there was a very cool wooden play ground at the park that was so breathtaking. Fun for kids too. ;) Definitely taking the family back.

It's good enough :)

The plus is it's inexpensive. We were just looking for a place to sleep since we'll be out most of the time. Bed was comfy, staff friendly, & great location next to the beach. The drive is only 11 mins away from the airport. The only warning would be the roosters waking you up at 5 am ( I didn't mind since we had things to do anyways) and the extra charges for amenities was $70. The continental breakfast was just four pieces of fruits and coffee. The hotel is run down, but I don't mind as long at the room was nice. The pool was falling apart, but it didn't keep my husband and I from swimming. It was actually pretty funny swimming around and finding loose tiles at the bottom. :) Overall I liked it. We had fun at Kauai.

For a family get together

We visit Kauai for family gatherings. We usually end up here since it is inexpensive and close to family. The rooms are generally clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. With each visit, we have noticed that they never have enough linens in the room. We always have to call the front desk for more towels and sheets. The reservation asks for the number of people, you would think this information would be used by the hotel to provide the guest with a positive experience.

Mold in room

Our room had mold in it and when we went to the front desk to report this. They moved us to another room. The entire resort needs work everything was worn and needs replacement from pool area where tikes are missing to grounds where picnic areas are in bad shape

Tucked in Get-A-Way

Although the shower was super small... the king sized bed gave me a good night's rest. I did not receive the ocean front view I paid for though. Not really sure what happened there. Furthermore, my sweater went missing after our room was cleaned. Nonetheless, this location was closest to alot of places we wanted to drive to Kauai - so no complaints. The hot tub is small, by the way. But, that's why you should skip along outside and enjoy the Kauai water!

Brick House Pizza is just down the road! They make their own pizzas and have an option for wheat bread crust with a glaze of garlic sauce. Delicious. Support small business!

Toss Up at the Aston Aloha

Just came back from a three day, two night stay at the hotel for the MLK weekend. Granted, while this was a last minute booked getaway from Oahu, I still hoped to actually get the things I paid for. So, I'm not sure who to place the blame on here. I paid a few dollars more with the ocean view and I did not have an ocean view, at all. In fact, they put me toward the poolside view... Nope. The continental breakfast is minimal: juice, a few slices of fruit, and a small pastry... UNLESS you decide to pay the extra $10 for the rest of the selection made available which included sausage, scrambled eggs, cereal, guava juice, orange juice, et cetera. There were some flies around the pastry selection so that sort of freaked me out. My boyfriend and I stuck with the eggs, meat, yogurt, and cereal. I did like the king sized bed! It was just a bummer for us to only find out when we were cleaning out before check out that here were extra pillows in the drawers! Finally, I am not sure where my grey sweater went off to. I had it in the room before the room was cleaned on Sunday and come Sunday afternoon/Monday morning... my piece of clothing was gone. I turned the room upside down hoping to find it, and nothing. Since we were rushing out in the morning, I just didn't want to spend the time of day to ask about who might have taken it... As far as location, I did like how the hotel was reasonably close to both the North and South shore. It took us 25-40 minutes either way. Waimea Canyon is a bit farther but we decided to do that trip first anyway. The parking attendant was awesome! Especially coming back to the hotel later in the evening, they were willing to let us park in the bus parking lots. I sincerely appreciated that. I guess I just paid with my missing grey sweater... However, next time, I would probably stay in the South Shore.

Good location

The resort is interesting but more appropriate for families with children. The Japanese gardens are well maintained and beautiful. I found the pool and jacuzzi area to be noisy especially with little kids and their mother coming in the jacuzzi with a boogie board and a big ball. Apparently the pool area is closed at 1000pm but people were in the jacuzzi and pool at midnight, talking loudly without respect for those in the rooms around. This seems unacceptable since the ocean is but 5 minutes away. Our room was shabby and needs to be renovated: old stained rug, stained lamp shades, dirty windows. The view is beautiful and the staff was exceptionally courteous and helpful. despite the fact that they were short staffed during new years time, they worked hard to serve us well and with a smile. On our last day, there was a problem in the kitchen and the only breakfast available was the buffet at full price. I think it would have been appropriate to at least offer the buffet at a discounted price.

A boat cruise to the Napali Coast is well worth it. It's very rugged and majestic.

Very relaxing family retreat!!

Very relaxing and welcoming. The architecture is classic Hawaii and very open air. The location is on a great waterfront and beside beautiful Wailua River. Long board surfing, Standup surfing and kayaking are at your doorstep. The required entertainment fee od $10 a day should be done away with. Particularly since the two free DVD's we got each day did not play or stopped half way through!! BUT, we didn't come to watch movies!!! We enjoyed our stay!!
