Horrible hotel

Location is great but the hotel it self is good for the price but not worth it when you're in Hawaii! Also check the beds before sleeping!

good choice, great value

The hotel got a good location, only 5 min to walk to waikiki beach, 10 min to a shopping center. There's also convenient stores and public traffic stations nearby. In addition, the room is very tidy and cozy. The staff at the front desk is also very nice. They arranged a two double bed room for my family, which is exactly what i request when i booked the hotel. Overall, if you want to save money but don't want to feel uncomfortable, getway is a wise choice!

great time

Very good experience on our honeymoon at the gateway, will be staying here again for our next trip. Staff was great and also upgraded our room to a two lanai ocean view unit for a super deal. Room was clean and fresh with newer decor. Location is also great for being at the starting point for all the shops and frontage to Wiakiki beach. Also 20 steps to the trolly bus line, which is a very efficient way to get around to various activates. This hotel is a aure bargain aftwr being in others in the area. They arw fewer amenities than others close by but your not visiting hawaii to stay in a hotel. Will recommend to anyone.

definitely needs updating

very old hotel. lobby and elevators have been updated, but that's it. pictures that they show online were not an example of the actual rooms. bathrooms are probably original. hotel staff was very nice, but not very informative. even the lady at the information desk gave us incorrect information. we had to go across the street to a different hotel's concierge to get the info we needed. very disappointed

Noisy, falling apart dated hotel

Maybe back in the day this might have been a decent place, But everything about it is old and falling apart. You need to guess what floor your on, the elevators show 3rd floor at lobby. The Restaurant / Bar is a complete dirty dive and no reason to ever go into it. No matter what floor your on, the street noise sounds like it is in your room. Oh, the still have old tube TV's and terrible reception. Also beware if you book online, When you get there they want a $300 deposit as if there is anything you could do to worsen this place !

Flooded bathroom

Check in and lobby looks pretty nice, recently renovated. Take elevator up and rooms are very old school. I don't think I have seen a box TV set in 5 years, beds were ok, bathroom kind of prison style basic. Took a shower in the morning and it was a walk in shower. The drain did not drain so the little lip that's supposed to keep water in the shower was no match for it. The whole bathroom was flooded. Had to use all the towels to try soak it up so my children wouldn't slip and fall. I called the front desk they said someone would come up. We went to the breakfast buffet they have downstairs, which was actually decent. When we returned to room maintenance was in there trying to fix the drain. He was in there for a while so we just checked out early. Asked the front desk about if that is usually happening in showers and she just kind if shrugged and said yeah.

Its aiiight.

We got the standard size room for our first evening there. Room is clean. The ac was leaking. The Bathroom was soooo dirty. Like no effort put forth into cleaning it at all. The water didnt even drain! But I suppose its what I get for only paying $70 (deep discount because i'm kamaaina.) We decided to just book a second night since we didn't want to have to look for another hotel and move all our stuff. The guy ended up upgrading our room to a California King bed room for only like $10-15 more since that was the only one available. This was definitely an upgrade from the last! Although this one had only a few bedbugs, it was manageable. The bathroom was alright, the water drained a little bit better, but still not all the way. Breakfast was not recommended by the gsa after we asked about the quality. He said better to go across the street to eat breakfast lol. Asked about the "million dollar upgrades" that they boast about.. andddd it looks like it was all spent on the lobby. Tried looking for the ice machine after going through every single level after seeing in the elevator "Ice machine on level 3" and it not being there. Decided to go to the lobby and they said it was on a different level where the laundry machines are at. Waste of twenty minutes of my life...... Overall, I will ONLY book this hotel again if I get lucky with the $70 kamaaina again. But I will most likely never stay at this hotel again.
