Great Hotel

The hotel staff upgraded us to a one bedroom suite on the top floor with a partial ocean view for a very reasonable price. The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk to to the beach, across from a rental car company, close to many restaurants, shopping, and convenient store. I couldn't have had a better experience.

Great location

The location of the hotel is great. The amenities include internet access in the rooms and free rides on the pink trolley - both very useful extras. Unfortunately during our stay the internet was out for 3 days. The rooms are comfortable but are showing their age and could use renovation. The staff is friendly and helpful. Overall a good hotel at a great price.

Interesting

I had gone there for business so it served it's purpose, however, the parking lot connected with stairs and I had a lot of bags. IT was difficult lugging everything up and down each time to load and unload. Although the location wasnt bad, in the evening, there were a lot of ladies selling their wares (if you know what I mean)... so families with children should be wary. Also wee in the night, there was someone with a very dirty and loud mouth shouting up and down the streets.

Total dissapointment

Though staff are very helpful, the amenities are not up to date. TV is tube type and only moveable to forward. Shower room is so small and cannot even bend down if you loose a soap, I'm only 5'6" & 155 lb. Toilet flush is so noisy and hate to use it if some is still sleep. The wall is thin you can hear the total conversation (fortunately next room were foreigner)

hot water issues

It took 15 minutes to get the shower water hot. Maintenance was notified twice and the problem persisted. I think we should have been given another room, it was a huge pain to wait for the water to heat up. thumbs down!

Watch out for the back-side Kitchenettes

I just booked and stayed in a room with a kitchenette at Ohana East. Unfortunately, it was on 2nd floor at the back-side of the hotel by the delivery/loading dock of the Sheraton Princess K. The showers doors on that side of the hotel have 16" openings (approx. 45 degree angles) which means that you have to press against the glass door and squeeze side-ways to get into and out of the shower stall. The 2nd floor room also did not have any windows that opened and no balcony - only a rooftop to look at. If you do book a kitchenette, book early and call Sarah or Marilou in the PM (HI time) to select a front (Kuhio Ave.) room and to have your room "blocked" so that they can't take it away from you if your arrive later than first 3:00 PM check-ins. Also, there are no more free coffee and muffin breakfasts at Kimobean in the lobby. The hotel will not go through a major room renovation until 2014 - so you have to settle for old furniture and a CRT TV - no flat screen - until then. The elevators are also a little "hinky" at times with the card access system. Proximity cards would be better. This was a great spot 8 years ago but other hotels have renovated their rooms and have surpassed this Outrigger. The non-kitchenette rooms are OK but still need renovating.

It was a BroomCloset!

This was our second time with OHana on Oahu. The first trip booked with ak air in 2010 and stayed the Ohana Waikiki West location. It was just ok but the room was at least large enough to move around with your luggage and it had a balcony with chairs and a semi ok view of at least other buildings up on the 14th floor. This time booking with this company we were given a very low standard room or we called it the broom closet. It was only on the 3rd floor overlooking the dumpsters with not enough of a balcony to put a chair out on it. The room was so small we were constantly tripping on our luggage. It was a really ugly room! We usually get a kind of cheaper room since were gone most of the time but this was beyond bad and I think it had something to do with who we booked with. We will never stay with Ohana waikiki or Ohana hotel again.

Wonderful people, poor accomodations

In Honolulu on a job. Been staying at Ohana East for several months now. I stay because someone else pays. Rooms are old, need refreshing. It happens. Let me make a list of this stay: 1- Dishes in my kitchenette were visibly filthy. 2- No usable internet. Wired was disconnected and wireless was unusable speed. 3- Ants all over the work desk. 4- Sink Drain in bathroom was broken closed so sink was not usable. 5- Hot water handle in bathroom sink was broken. 6- Carpet was more than acceptably dirty. I've waited several months before posting anything in hopes of them "getting their act together", but I guess that's not going to happen. It's too bad because the people here are wonderful.

Spontaneous Visit

The hotel was fine. The rooms are outdated. They could use a renovation to bring it up to speed. I had free wifi and I think it was coming from a neighboring hotel, which I didn't have to pay for. They charge for the use of theirs, which isn't listed as an amenity. The staff is great! Very friendly!
