Hiltion Waikiki Great Location

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days in October 2014, The staff here are all very friendly and so Helpfull Jan at the front desk made our check in so easy she went out of her way to make sure are stay was perfect. Shawn at the bell desk also went the exter mile as my wife need a whellchair to get around shawn arranged to have one delivered to our room. Our room was super clean, and nice and cool. We had an ocean view room, but were on the 20th floor, so the view was great. The room adequate size, bed comfortable with a small balcony. It was close enough to the beach for an easy one block walk. We ate at MAC/24 several times and the food was excellent.

King Ocean View Pricey but Standard

First, there is only valet parking here. I tipped, but the hotel charges $25 dollars for the parking anyway. The driveway in front of the lobby is very narrow and hard to make a left turn into. Whenever you want to get your car, you have to have the valet get it and if it's busy, you could be waiting for your car for 15-20 minutes. It was a pretty ridiculous scene around 5pm watching the valets trying to manage new guests trying to fit into the driveway while bringing out other guests' cars. The hotel is in back of Pacific Beach Hotel so even though my room was an Ocean View, you're mostly looking at the back of Pacific Beach. The patio furniture was very old and dingy. The room was okay, but the carpet was old and the glass shower door didn't shut all the way. You have a refrigerator, TV and a coffee maker. There's a decent selection of TV channels, but we weren't there much. WiFi is not free in the room, though connecting your laptop via hard line is. The lobby is open to the bar which has live music at night, which essentially makes the whole lobby a bar. The area to the left of the hotel driveway is dark at night. For some reason its the only place without streetlights and it is a little sketchy looking when it gets dark. I'd say the room is about the same quality as Ala Moana hotel, which is cheaper, but not in Waikiki. If you're gonna stay in Waikiki, its better to stay closer to the Ala Moana side rather than the Diamond Head side, which this is on. All of our shopping and walking around was away from the hotel. .

Shopping tip: Long walk from hotel

If you're looking for unique T-shirts, check out 88 Tees. It's on Kalakaua Avenue. There's another one on Kuhio Avenue, but it's much smaller. Go to their website and print out a 10% coupon. There's no expiration. Finding a unique shirt is a part of the fun as you find piles of shirts. The storekeepers are constantly folding shirts, restocking, checking people out. It's a lot of fun.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't hire a car locally unless you really need it, you get hit with a 25 dollar a night parking fee as it is valet parking only at the Hilton Waikiki, gratuity not included so you feel obliged to tip too. This can lead to an expense in excess of £400 for two weeks stay. There are plenty of last minute booking locations around the hotel area (within 5 minute walk) to rent a car last minute, but this also can be an expensive option as last minute tend to charge a bit more. The key is to organise what you are going to do and decide when best to get a rental car for a selection of days as a package. Don't get sucked in to upgrading your car either, I fell for this to get a Ford Focus, they said they only had the Kia Soul left and that was what I was stuck with. They also got me with a rental of a satnav, which was ok to an extent, but those two upgrades cost me another £300 for the two weeks. Do your research, use your GPS on your phone for getting around, I won't be suckered in again. Best tip: If you don't know the local area, don't rent a car for the first couple of days. Get out on foot and localise yourself first, you will want to relax for the first couple of days, so a car could be avoided initially, besides it's known that Honolulu is the 5th worst place to drive in the US.

Annual Hawaii Trip

Have stayed at this hotel on 4 separate occasions. Location very good. Room size good and clean (although carpets were a bit grubby). Mac 24/7 restaurant serves good food. Every time we have stayed here we have always stayed on floor 10 or above - when we checked in this year they said we would be staying on the 4th floor - when we asked to stay on a higher floor, they tried to charge us an extra 20 dollars per night! When we told them that we always stay above 10th floor with no extra charge they agreed to put us on the 28th floor for no extra charge! We feel that there is no 'personal touch' at this hotel which is a shame because location, rooms, restaurant are all pretty good.

If you want to eat at restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory or Yard House then go around 1730 otherwise you will be waiting around one hour for a table.

Good location, average quality

The hotel is conveniently located just a short distance away from Waikiki Beach and has a bus stop just a few steps away. The room we had is average in terms of size and overall quality. I will not consider that 4 star. The hotel staff gave us a room for handicap (the bathroom is different) without asking us if that is OK. The main reason we chose the hotel was because the price seems more reasonable than other similar hotels in the neighborhood. I have Hilton member card. But the hotel staff told me that since I booked through a travel website, my stay does not count for any points. I am quite surprised and disappointed. There was no such warning when I booked online. This incident much lowers my motivation to stay at any Hilton Hotel in the future if I book online at a travel site for a packaged deal.

Nice!!

Just spent a week there with my wife and we loved it. It was centrally located in the heart of Waikiki with a great view of the beach. The over vibe of the hotel was cool. Not as trendy as the W but still slick and modern with a youthful energy minus the spring breaker types. We visited most sea side hotels in town and while there are some really nice options out there, for the price, you won't find anything that comes close to this place. We'll be back.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

There's a moped/scooter rental shop 3min walk from the hotel. A scooter is THE BEST way to see the island. Don't go without renting one for the day and riding down the coast to Haunuma Bay. If you rent a car make sure it's a Jeep Wrangler...take the roof and windows off and feel the island.
