A beautifully simple but luxurious hotel

This hotel made me feel at home in Honolulu. The staff were incredibly friendly . The room was beautiful in its simple and artistic design and immaculately clean. Every room has a lovely balcony. Mine looked on to Diamond Head. The beach is a parking lot away and uncrowded and good for swimming. The hustle and bustle of Waikiki is far enough away that it felt peaceful, and near enough to walk to in a few minutes. No restaurant but a lovely one next door.

exceptional value

I booked this sight unseen based on reviews and great deal. Arrived after a long flight from Australia. The room I had booked was not yet available so I was promptly upgraded to an ocean view room at the same price. The staff was incredibly friendly and accomodating. Beach towels, beach chairs and even bikes are available at no charge. The location is perfect, far enougfh away from the chaos of Waikikii yet with access to everything very close by. The room was ideal, two balconies, spotless. I will only stay here again when I visit Honolulu.

Amazing Start to a Fabulous Vacation

We wanted to be in Honolulu for one night and picked the Aqua Lotus from the list on the Orbitz hotel suggestions after booking our flight. We received a great discount on the price, but not a discount on the room comfort and staff attention. The Aqua Lotus is a good walk from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, which was what we wanted. Diamond head was right out our window and the ocean was just a few steps from the front door of the hotel. We only stayed one night in this hotel, before moving on to another island. But if we were staying on Oahu longer, the Aqua Lotus would be the hotel we'd choose. You'll love it...promise!

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

The strip of Waikiki is a good walk from the hotel, but if you want the island feel to your stay, the Aqua Lotus gets you away from it all. The dining choices are plentiful all along the main strip of Waikiki and you are about 15-25 minutes walk from them. We tried the Jimmy Buffet Bar and Grill...excellent food and the drinks hit the spot! Aloha!

Great Location!

While this hotel does not have some of the amenities and luxuries a resort style hotel does, it was perfect for our needs! It was removed just enough from the hustle of downtown to be quiet and relaxing, while close enough to restaurants and shops (about 10 mins walk) to walk in for dinner or shopping. We loved the location, and it had a beautiful view of Diamond Head Crater while allowing you to see the water as well. Hotel staff was kind and accommodating, offered beach towels and chairs everyday, coffee and tea in the mornings, and free newspaper. Microwave and coffee makers were available upon request. The beach outside the hotel is nice and quiet, small but plenty of room. Sand is not quite as nice as down the road, but its more convenient. Hotel next door has good restaurant, but make a reservation as it fills up quickly. Highly recommend renting a car, but don't pay valet. There is a park across the street from hotel with free overnight parking- meters from10am-6pm only and pretty easy to find a spot especially during the weekdays. With your rental car, you have freedom to drive the whole island and see some of the amazing sights on the North Shore or Windward side, which are much prettier than Waikiki in my opinion. Totally worth it. Snorkeling in Sharks Cove at North Shore was great (lots of fish and saw a sea turtle), and some beaches were pretty empty too. Hotel staff was great for giving directions and suggestions for where to go. Can't wait to go back!

The goods and the bads ...

Overall the vacation to Hawaii was very enjoyable, lots of stuff to do around. The hotel room was really clean and looked nice and bright just like in the photo. The hotel is not located right on the beach, there are 2-3 hotels in front. There are views towards Diamond head crater (beautiful site) for most rooms and partially to ocean due to other buildings obstruction. The back side of the hotel has views towards Waikiki but very few rooms are oriented that direction. There is only valet parking on site and they charge $18 per day. The valets were good, but one guy was on the creepy side, like in trying to over-service. One thing that was really inconvenient was their strict policy to check in room at 3pm. We arrived at the hotel exactly at noon and we had to change in a bathroom and leave bags at the hotel desk so we can go to the beach and come back in 3 hours. Here in CA I am used if rooms are available they still let you check in. There is a bar and restaurant on site, but it was closed for renovation during our stay. It seemed big and cozy when I peeked through glasses. We had to have most of the breakfasts and dinners to next hotel (which is right on the beach).

Well appointed room, limited amenities

Our premium Diamond Head room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is on the out-skirts of Waikiki and is therefore in a quiet neighborhood away from the bulk of the tourists. Room had an excellent view of Diamond Head from 2 decks and a view of the ocean. Rooms are setup in a vertical tier with open air walkway to the elevators/stairs. The bathroom lacked a tub, but had a larger than average shower stall large enough for two. The restaurant at the hotel was shut down for remodeling and the nearby restaurants are relatively expensive for the offerings. But, the long list of restaurants in Waikiki are just 10-15 min away by walking. The hotel lacks vending machines, but did have an ice dispensor. The hotel is within an accessible walk of Waikiki beach, the aquarium, zoo, etc.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Discover Hawaii Tours is an excellent way to tour Pearl Harbor and see a bit of Honolulu sites. The closest shuttle stop to this hotel is about a 10 min walk from the hotel toward the main part of Waikiki.
