Gorgeous, spotless room. We left the glass doors open and closed the shutter doors each night so the birds would wake us up in the morning. Great views, some ocean, mostly park and diamond head. Thanks to Courtney for the great yoga class on saturday!

favorite place to stay in oahu

The staff immediately make you feel welcome at this hotel. Perhaps because it is a smaller hotel, the staff are much more personable than at larger hotels. There is access to a private beach area which is quite small, but you can easily walk to the rest of the beaches around Waikiki. The location is great because it's walkable to Waikiki area stores and restaurants but set away from the noise and tackiness. The view of Diamond Head every morning is beautiful. Rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. My only complaint is that there is no restaurant on site, which would be nice after a busy day when you are tired are just want to grab a bite at the hotel before bed. Overall, a great place to stay in Oahu.

Get to the Saturday morning farmers market at Kapiolani Community College (KCC) early especially if you need to find parking. It opens at 7:30am. Some people claim it's too crowded but that's part of the fun and experience. There's a great variety of food options, locally made treats, and local produce. Vendors are friendly and give out plenty of samples. We walked away full and with plenty of treats in tow!

Hidden Gem at Diamond Head

This 51 room hotel between Queen Kapiolani Park and the beach is a wonderful oasis if you want to get away from the insane crowds, noise and high end retail hubbub of Waikiki. When we booked we were worried that the pictures would not match the actual hotel. We needn't have worried! The staff could not have been more caring, professional and personable. Our room on an upper floor had a great view of downtown from the exterior corridor, and Diamond Head from the balcony. Every morning we were treated to ring neck parakeets and fairy terns flitting from tree to tree. Complimentary coffee every morning and wine in the afternoon in the lobby. You should know that this hotel doesn't have a pool, and the restaurant is being renovated and should be ready by 2013. Neither of these facts was a problem for us. Aqua provides free beach chairs and towels and the beach is a stone's throw away. The properties on either side have restaurants-pricey but great food. Better to walk or bike a short distance-Lu lu's and Cheeseburger in Paradise make a nice breakfast, and Diamond Head Market and Grill at the corner of Monsarrat and Campbell is a place for local "ono grinds" (that means good food, bro). Our king bed was very comfortable, the room was simple and elegant-muted turquoise fabrics and a dark floor with a neutral patterned area rug, very restive. And cleaned spotlessly every day. There's laundry on site-if you like to travel with carry on only, that's a plus :) We left knowing we would be back and the sooner the better.

IMO, rent a car and plan your own activities rather than book tours. The car cost us $400 plus gas for the week. We rented snorkel equipment at Snorkel Bob's on Kapahulu Ave for $35 per person for the whole week and took ourselves to all the snorkel spots instead of paying someone else to take us. Most of them cost you nothing, except if you want to snorkel Hanauma bay, you'll pay to park your car and an entry fee-total $16 at the time of our visit. The only advantage I can see to going on a tour is that some places are hard to find parking unless you go early. So get in gear early in the AM and save yourself some dough. Renting a car also allowed us to sample local foods at places like Rainbow Drive In, Leonard's Bakery, Helena's Hawiian Foods, Side Street Inn, all Honolulu, Giovanni's Shrimp truck in Hailewa, Kahuku Grill, Kahuku, Huki lau Cafe in Laie. I spent $75 for 2 people for breakfast one morning at the Sans Souci hotel next to Aqua because we were just dragging and couldn't decide where to go. I spent only $15 at Diamond Head Market and Grill. There's something to be said for going to chain restaurants-you'll get consistent food anywhere in the world, however I didn't fly 10 hours non-stop to eat at Cheesecake Factory. AND-I can't stress this enough-sun screen. We avoided burning all week and let our guard down on the last morning, watching the Aloha Festival parade. Apply before you leave your room, carry and reapply throughout the day!

Perfect for the two of us!

The Aqua Lotus is quietly situated away from the busy Waikiki strip. But, you can still enjoy the strip after a short 10 min walk. It is located near the beautiful Kaimana beach, where I frequently swam as a child. The staff was friendly and helpful. The morning coffee and tea, and evening wine in the lobby was very convenient. The room was simple but elegant. The view of Diamond Head and Waikiki beach was a double whammy! The only thing that would have made our stay better was more reasonably priced eating spots nearer to the hotel. We would definitely return to the Aqua Lotus and recommend it to others.

Restful beautiful spot. Great location. Staff A++++

Bike to Diamond Head and the city college Farmer's Market saturdays. Have a breakfast there and fried green tomatoes - honest. Stop at Bogart's on the ride back and have coffee and a scone. Swim their little shared beach. Walk the park eating at that restaurant in the park. Enjoy the Aqua Lotus's complementary 4 - 6 pm wine and well made Kona coffee in the morning!! And sleep very well away from all the joys of wild Waikiki!!

Best little hotel, great location.

Staff were very good. the hotel is small and people are made to feel as if they are part of a family. Great free wine for happy hour in the lobby. Free coffee in the morning, as well as a coffee maker in the room. Views are great. Diamond head and the ocean, park is across the road. Waikiki shell is in the park. lots to do and only a very short walk to the main shops. Beach is one of the best and not crowded like waikiki. I will stay in this gem of a hotel again. Favorate so far, and I come every year.

Unexpected find in Honolulu

My wife and I booked a last minute trip to Honolulu to visit family and decided to stay a few nights in Wikiki on our own. We didn't want the craziness if the tourist district and we wanted to keep the feel of having an island vacation. The aqua lotus was a nice surprise. Even though it didn't have an on-site restaurant, the hotel was quiet, clean, accommodating, and in the perfect location. Our room had a perfect view of Diamond Head (in it's entirety), Kapiolani park, and the ocean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Overall, great find. Would be better with a breakfast bar or on site restaurant, which I'm told will be coming soon.

Beautiful location

Beautiful location, near enough to the busy area but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Near a breath taking beach and park and close to the Aquarium. The room was amazing, on the 12th floor, corner room with a view of Diamond Head and the ocean. The only drawback was the late check-in. The check-in was confirmed for 1 PM and we were not in our room until after 3 PM. Sitting around in the lobby for 2 hrs. was not a great way to start our stay especially when we had arrived from the cruise ship at 09:30.
