Petite boutique-chic that's near the beach
Tucked into a quieter area of Waikiki, Aqua Bamboo is only two mini-blocks from Waikiki Beach and several blocks from Honolulu Zoo. It's a favorite of couples looking for affordability and location without sacrificing a bit of hipness. The jewel of the hotel is a backyard oasis of tropical plants surrounding a small saltwater pool. Rooms are sharp and trendy.
Highlights
- Relax in the Outer Sanctuary, a hidden back patio with saltwater pool and waterfall
- Enjoy free Wi-Fi in the lobby and poolside, free coffee and tea service around the clock and a free daily newspaper
- Connect with the hotel's free concierge service to get the latest happenings
Location
Two mini-blocks from bustling Kalakaua Avenue and Waikiki Beach, Aqua Bamboo benefits from a mellow setting but is close to the action. It's also several blocks from attractions such as the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park as well as shopping destinations such as Royal Hawaiian Center. The closest stretch of beach is one of Waikiki's best, with water sports equipment rentals and offshore seawalls that make swimming placid and safe.
Rooms
The hotel's 93 guest rooms each feature a private balcony, refrigerators, microwaves, high-speed Internet, unlimited local calls, signature Aqua Hotels & Resorts bath amenities and 32-inch LCD TVs (some of these features fall under the general fee). The trendy, Asian-inspired decor favors sleek dark woods and eye-popping hints of color. Views range from city to partial-ocean.Dining
Take advantage of the hotel's partnership with Island Grocery Service -- select your groceries online and have them waiting for you in your room at arrival. The local supermarket Food Pantry is also only two blocks away. Some guests who have booked packages may receive Continental breakfast service. Otherwise, casual and upscale dining is plentiful within the three-block area, including award-winning dinner service at Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar and Hy's Steak House.

nice room
it was noisy at night since it locates on a busy street. the sound of A/C was worse. and can't connect WIFI in the room which was the worst point of the hotel. you can have it at the lobby and pool, though. other than that, the price and location are great.

Excellent value
I chose this hotel by reading the reviews, and, it turned out better than I anticipated. The hotel is close to many stores, restaurants and the beach. There is no restaurant at the hotel, but, there is a good choice within a short walking distance. Internet is available in the rooms but it is not WI-FI. WI-FI is in the lobby.

Would not stay there again nor recommend it.
The first night was noisy with street noise. We were going to be moved to a higher floor but then ended up moving hotels altogether. Some of the staff were really nice and friendly. The manager was not pleasant at all to deal with. It was a bad start to our holiday but we moved to a great hotel with wonderful staff who took care of us! We would definitely book another stay at the Park Shore Hotel!

Budget Vacation
This hotel was perfect for the kind of tight budget vacation my boyfriend and I were looking for. The amenities included complimentary lemonade, tea, a pool, and to our pleasant surprise, a jacuzzi, just to name a few. There wasn't anything particularly special about this hotel, but everything was just a short walk away!

Comfortable and quiet getaway
Having stayed here before, I got what I expected (and more). Waikiki is a bustling, busy (and noisy) location. The Bamboo is a small hotel with a welcoming lobby and quiet lounging area. The hotel provides free coffee, iced tea and lemonade in the lounge area. Rooms are pleasantly decorated. Staying on a high floor I had three lanai's two with obstructed ocean and city/mountain views. Previous stays on lower floors did NOT have views (except to the lanai of the next door hotel. Room included a small fridge, microwave, stovetop and sink. A LCD TV and (this time) a DVD/VCR was a nice touch. There are two Red Box kiosks at a nearby small grocery store.I like the location near to the beach, restaurants and a Bus stop a mere block away. Staff is pleasant and helpful. There are issues with street noise which in my experience is the case at all area hotels. The hotel has neither a bar nor restaurant on premises. Parking is a problem I understand. When on vacation I do not drive. I have stayed at the Hyatt on previous trips and found it anonymous. Last time I stayed there they were in the midst of a dispute with their employees leading to noisy demonstrations. The maids went on strike and for four of seven days my room was not serviced. No apology was offered by Hyatt management. I will not stay there again.

ROACHES
Our stay at the Bamboo started out wonderful, nice staff, beautiful room... but it went downhill from there. The room looked clean but we had to kill more than 10 cockroaches in about 30 minutes. I know in a tropical area its common, but the hotel we had transferred from (Ohana West: wanted a nicer room for our romantic getaway) had no signs of roaches. When we went to front desk they said they'd send someone to spray, so we went for a walk. When we came back it was obvious nobody had done anything (we had wedged a towel under the bathroom door in an attempt to barricade ourselves from roaches).Needless to say, I had to call again and someone came up. Then we killed many more and decided this was not a relaxing place to stay. Dan at front desk offered us the Deluxe Luxury Suite for free, but we just wanted out of the hotel. He accommodated us by sending us to the Aqua Aloha Surf where we were lucky to receive a free upgrade to a deluxe suite. It was also a loss because we lost our beautiful ocean view, but at least we couldn't find evidence of roaches at the other hotel. Overall, it was a pretty hotel, but I can't recommend a hotel where you have to kill a roach every 10 minutes. (Check other recent reviews to see if they'd had roach problems) Also, Front desk service was sub-par when you want any help (we brought a problem to them and became the 'bad' guys)
